What will you do? We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer with extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering, optimizing, securing, and migrating enterprise database environments while ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance across on-premises and Azure platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- SQL Server Administration
- Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management.
- Manage SQL Server instances across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Execute database patching activities and maintain compliance with organizational standards.
- Azure Database Services
- Lead database migration projects from On-Premises SQL Server to Azure SQL services.
- Administer and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
- Configure, monitor, and optimize Azure database resources for performance and cost efficiency.
- Support Azure infrastructure services impacting database workloads.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design, implement, and manage HA/DR solutions.
- Manage SQL Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, and backup strategies.
- Conduct periodic disaster recovery testing and recovery validation exercises.
- Ensure database backups are completed successfully and recoverability is maintained.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Monitor database health and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.
- Perform query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
- Review database growth trends and conduct capacity planning.
- Improve database performance through tuning and best practices implementation.
- Security & Compliance
- Review and remediate database vulnerabilities identified through security assessment tools.
- Implement database hardening, encryption, auditing, and access management controls.
- Ensure adherence to security, governance, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Manage user permissions, roles, and database access controls.
- Automation & Monitoring
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell and T-SQL.
- Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and reporting solutions.
- Automate routine DBA tasks to improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of SQL Server Administration experience.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Proven experience in On-Premises to Azure database migration projects.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Strong knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Experience in SQL Server patching and vulnerability remediation.
- Basic Azure administration experience.
- Knowledge of PowerShell and SQL automation.
- Strong troubleshooting, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Certifications preferred: DP-300, AZ-104, Microsoft SQL Certifications.
