Job summary

Linxon in Chennai, India is seeking a Project Engineer - Civil to join the substations team. You will contribute to civil/structural design for HV projects, including AIS/GIS foundation work and transmission line interfaces, from design through site support.

The role requires 6–10 years of experience in substation civil design and a degree in civil engineering. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for successful project delivery.

Job Title: Project Engineer - Civil

Job Location: Chennai, India

What will you do?

• Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning activities. Prepares project documentation within one's scope of deliverables.
• Develop the tender engineering deliverable in short period with quality.
• Secure the completeness of the assigned packages and correct function of the resulting substation system.
• Confirm the engineering is developed, taking into consideration the complete information and all inter‑discipline checks have been conducted; the results are documented in the project‑specific storage area.
• Solves problems that appear during engineering development.
• Focus on cost‑efficient system solutions.
• Report and keep records for all engineering changes. Cooperate with the engineering team and agree on the project‑specific impacts caused by the changes.
• Ensure compliance with Linxon and client engineering guidelines, standards, and quality across the complete engineering process.
• Create work plans and cost estimates in one's area of responsibility.
• Coordinate and clarify with engineers, subcontractors and suppliers' technical issues (within the assigned scope of work) and technical interfaces.
• Collaborate with the site team, attend the site during the construction phase if necessary.
• Contribute to the risk & opportunity register by communicating observations.
• Prepare all technical documentation for the equipment specification as input to the purchase requisitions.
• Contribute to the up‑to‑date design issue log.
• Understand and follow Linxon OHS procedures and guidelines (safety).
• Participate in design reviews.
• Provide input for close‑out report and lessons learned, and follow/review lessons learned for next projects.

Experience, Education And Other Requirements

• 6‑10 years of experience in substation design with a focus on HV equipment expertise and overall system design.
• Bachelor's Degree / master's degree in civil engineering.
• Complete design knowledge on civil design and detailed engineering of AIS & GIS substation foundations, structures up to 500 kV and transmission line design for various voltage levels.
• Knowledge of ANSI standards for substation civil engineering is desired.
• Overall engineering design experience on base, detail civil, structural engineering in GIS or AIS substation and transmission line for UK utilities is required.
• Well‑versed handling of ANSI units like feet, inches, pounds, etc. is preferred.
• Hands‑on experience in HV substation civil/structural design, preparation of site grading, foundation design and detailed engineering drawings, structural design and detailed engineering drawings, BOM preparation, building design and detailing, etc.
• Review of consultant design and drawings and provide in‑depth comments.
• Coordinate with site, customer, consultant and contractor.
• Work with the complete engineering team.
• Complete design experience on civil software like STAAD Pro, SAP 2000, SAFE, L‑pile, L‑shaft, RISA, AutoCAD, etc.
• Experience in transmission line design using PLS CAD/PLS tower/PLS pole, etc.,.
• Understanding of electronic records management systems.
• High attention to detail and quality.
• Pile foundation design skills.
• Site/grading development plan, sections, details and cut & fill quantities table.
• Site drainage layout preparation.
• Final finish surfacing plan, section and details.
• Looking for civil engineer who has experience in UK utilities.
