Job summary

Cendyn is seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator to lead the design, reliability, and modernization of our multi-engine production database fleet. You will mentor the DBA practice, partner with cloud and AppDev teams on data architecture, and serve as the senior escalation point for database incidents.

You will drive modernization across engines, oversee HA/DR design, and enforce standards while supporting a robust DevOps and observability culture.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with Oracle (8+ years) and MySQL/MariaDB (5+ years).
• Production experience with cloud-managed services (Aurora, RDS, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL).
• Expert-level SQL performance tuning and query optimization.
• Experience leading multi-engine modernization, migrations, and cloud transitions.

Responsibilities

• Lead operation of a multi-engine production database fleet (Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Design and evolve HA topology, replication, partitioning, cross-region replicas, and backup/recovery.
• Drive modernization initiatives: version upgrades, on-prem to cloud migrations, consolidations.
• Set and enforce DBA standards: naming, schemas, backup SLAs, change management.
• Act as senior escalation point for database incidents and on-call rotations.
• Mentor junior DBAs and lead runbooks, shadowing, and growth paths.
• Own DR program: RPO/RTO, DR drills, recovery testing cadence.
• Drive data security posture: encryption, audit logging, least-privilege access.
• Lead performance tuning: queries, indexes, schemas at scale; train others.
• Stay current with cloud-native DB services and best practices.

Job Overview

We are seeking a seasoned, hands‑on senior engineer to join the Platform Engineering team at Cendyn as a Senior Database Administrator. In this role, you will lead the design, reliability, and modernization of our multi‑engine production database fleet, mentor and grow the DBA practice, partner with cloud and AppDev teams on data architecture, and act as the senior escalation point for database incidents. You will help us drive improvements to our significant public cloud footprint, DevOps pipelines and processes, and observability practice, with a particular focus on the data tier.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the operation of a multi‑engine production database fleet across Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB–both self‑managed and cloud‑managed (Aurora, RDS, Azure SQL,Cloud SQL)
• Own the design and evolution of our database architecture–HA topology, replication strategy, partitioning/sharding, multi‑region read replicas, and backup/recovery design
• Drive multi‑engine modernization initiatives end‑to‑end, including engine version EOL upgrades, on‑prem to cloud migrations, and database engine consolidation efforts
• Set, document, and enforce DBA practice standards across the organization (naming conventions, schema design patterns, backup/restore SLAs, change‑management procedures)
• Act as the senior escalation tier on the database on‑call rotation–drive root‑cause analysis, lead post‑incident reviews, and articulate SLOs at the database layer
• Mentor and grow junior and mid‑level Database Administrators–paired sessions, design reviews, runbook authoring, on‑call shadowing, and growth‑path coaching
• Own the database‑tier disaster recovery program–RPO/RTO articulation, DR drill design, and recovery‑testing cadence
• Lead PII, PCI, and compliance posture at the database tier–encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging, data classification, secrets rotation, and least‑privilege access design
• Drive query‑, index‑, and schema‑level performance engineering at scale; mentor others in performance tuning techniques
• Stay current on emerging database technologies, cloud‑native database services, and industry best practices; bring recommendations back to the team

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
• Minimum 8 years of hands‑on database administration experience across at least three engines
• Strongproficiencywith Oracle (8+ years)
• Strongproficiencywith MySQL / MariaDB (5+ years)
• Working production experience with at least two of: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
• Demonstrated production experience with cloud‑managed database services (Aurora, RDS, Azure SQL Database, or CloudSQL)
• Expert-levelproficiencywith SQL–query optimization, execution plan analysis, advanced indexing strategies
• Demonstratedtrack recordleading multi‑engine modernization initiatives (version upgrades, RDBMS migrations, on‑prem to cloud)
• Track recordmentoring database administrators and leading practice‑level standards or design reviews
• Experience designing and owning the architecture of ETL pipelines and data transformation flows at scale
• Strong understanding of database high‑availability patterns (replication topologies, failover design, multi‑region considerations)
• Strong understanding of cloud security best practices–network security, data encryption,certificatesand PKI, IAM, and database‑tier audit logging
• Experience leading incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑incident reviews at the database layer
• Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence) and working as part of an Agile team
• Experience with version control and source code management toolslike git,GitHub,Bitbucket, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with database‑as‑code tooling (Terraform modules for RDS / Aurora / managed‑DB services)
• Familiarity with database observability tooling (Datadog, AWS Performance Insights, Azure SQL Insights, or similar)
• Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking) in English
• Comfortable presenting to engineering managers, leadership, and cross‑functional stakeholders

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday from 2 PM to 11 PM IST. This will provide healthy overlap between India team and US team and supporting both to ensure adequate collaboration. This role will be working in Hybrid Mode and will require at least 2 days’ work from office at Hyderabad.
