Job Description:

Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer specialising in Snowflake to contribute to the design, implementation, automation, security, governance, and operational excellence of an enterprise data platform. This is a Snowflake Platform Engineering role rather than a traditional Data Engineering role. The position requires strong hands‑on experience administering and operating Snowflake in a production environment, together with broad exposure across the Snowflake ecosystem. The role combines senior technical expertise, platform engineering, leadership, and strategic contribution.

ETL and data pipeline development are not core requirements for this role. However, candidates should understand data engineering practices and ideally have experience supporting or working alongside Data Engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement platform automation for Snowflake resource provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management using Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform. Architect and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Snowflake infrastructure and configuration deployments using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps. Develop comprehensive monitoring and alerting frameworks using Snowflake-native tools. Lead cost optimisation strategies, including warehouse sizing, auto-suspend/resume, usage monitoring, and resource utilisation. Design and enforce security frameworks, including RBAC, network policies, data masking, encryption, and identity integration. Work with Entra integration, Single Sign-On, SCIM, and OAuth. Implement automated testing and validation frameworks for platform changes, ensuring stability and compliance in production environments. Establish platform governance and compliance controls, including audit logging, access reviews, and data retention policies. Develop disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for Snowflake environments. Create reusable templates, patterns, and modules to standardise platform provisioning and configuration across teams. Monitor and optimise Snowflake performance, including warehouse management and query profiling. Work with Snowflake Shares and broader Snowflake platform capabilities. Maintain high-quality technical documentation, including runbooks, platform standards, and onboarding guides. Collaborate with engineering, data, and compliance teams to maintain platform standards and best practices. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to platform standards and technical direction. Contribute to platform strategy and broader technical direction.

• Infrastructure & DevOps Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform. Experience architecting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Experience with: GitHub Actions Azure DevOps Exposure to DevOps practices.
• Programming & Automation Advanced scripting skills using: SQL Python Bash Python is the preferred programming language. YAML exposure is relevant.
• Monitoring, Performance & Cost Optimisation Strong understanding of monitoring and observability. Experience with usage tracking and query profiling. Experience with Snowflake cost optimisation. Experience with warehouse sizing, usage monitoring, and budgeting controls. Experience with performance tuning and platform optimisation in large-scale Snowflake environments.
• Leadership & Strategic Contribution Demonstrated leadership experience. Experience contributing to platform strategy. Strong communication, influencing, collaboration, and leadership skills. Experience leading approximately 4–5+ people is useful, although team size is not the primary criterion.

Qualifications & Experience

12–18 years of overall experience. Strong experience in platform or cloud engineering. Minimum approximately 3 years of Snowflake experience, with 4–5 years preferred. Ideally 5–10 years of large-scale database experience prior to Snowflake. Strong hands‑on Snowflake platform engineering and administration experience. Experience operating Snowflake in a production environment. Snowflake certification is mandatory. SnowPro Core is expected. SnowPro Advanced Administrator certification is expected. Demonstrated leadership and technical contribution at platform level.

Good-to-Have Skills

Azure experience — strongly preferred but not mandatory. Terraform. Azure Data Factory. Synapse / Spark. Data engineering tooling exposure. Power BI. Business Objects. Sigma. SAS integration with Snowflake. Previous exposure to large-scale databases such as Oracle, IBM, or Teradata. Understanding of data engineering practices. Experience supporting or working alongside Data Engineering teams.

Ideal Profile

The ideal candidate will be a senior Snowflake Platform Engineer with strong production administration experience and broad expertise across the Snowflake ecosystem. The candidate should bring strong technical depth across Snowflake security, access management, compute, networking, Snowflake Shares, governance, monitoring, cost optimisation, automation, and platform operations, together with demonstrated leadership and the ability to contribute to platform strategy.
