Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Contract Specialist to support UK infrastructure contracts, with exposure to reviews, drafting, and negotiations. You will collaborate across governance, legal, and commercial teams to manage a broad range of agreements and ensure compliance.

Location includes Bengaluru and Mumbai with permanent, full-time employment and flexible working considerations. The role targets candidates with LLB or QS background and strong analytical abilities.

Qualifications

• LLB or Quantity Surveying degree (preferred).
• Relevant experience in a large engineering or construction company (must).
• Understanding of UK infrastructure contract law (preferred) and use of standard contracts (e.g. NEC). (must)
• Good practical experience in applying legal principles and commercial law.
• Great analytical skills and excellent legal knowledge.
• Able to multitask, solve problems, and balance priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Able to work autonomously or as part of a bigger team.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements and NDAs.
• Conduct commercial reviews to ensure governance alignment and approvals.
• Draft and update commercial guidance for key markets and regulations.
• Assist Divisional Commercial Managers, potentially leading on commercial risk management.
• Coordinate with Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Data Protection, and Insurance teams.

Role

As our Energy Unit continues to grow, we are seeking a Contract Specialist to join our team with a bias towards UK infrastructure contracts. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of commercial disciplines including contract reviews, contract advice, cross border delivery, disputes, claims, tax and insurance. A proven track record of advising on contract matters across a range of jurisdictions is a distinct advantage, in particular UK civil law. Ideally you will have proven experience of delivering contract reviews, drafting and negotiation. Above all we are seeking someone who seeks to collaborate with excellent teamworking skills and would consider graduates with the right mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including consultancy agreements, framework agreements, memorandums of understanding and non-disclosure agreements.


• Conduct commercial reviews to identify departures from our governance parameters (which will be taught) and assist project teams in obtaining the necessary internal approvals.


• Draft and update commercial guidance to raise awareness of recurrent topics and new regulations in key markets and jurisdictions.


• Assisting the Divisional Commercial Managers and other members of unit team. This may include leading on commercial risk management for our projects.


• Support other Mott MacDonald functions in support of governance including liaison with the Legal Department, Ethics & Compliance, Data Protection and our Insurance teams.

Candidate qualification and experience

• LLB or Quantity Surveying degree (preferred)


• Relevant experience either in large engineering or construction company (must have)


• Understanding of UK infrastructure contract law (preferred) and use of standardised contracts (e.g. New Engineering Contract). (must have)


• Good practical experience of the application of legal principles and commercial law.


• Great analytical skills and excellent legal knowledge.


• Ability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities.


• Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.


• Ability to work autonomously or as part of a bigger team.
