Role
We are looking for an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to support and lead key design activities across our global Oil & Gas and Transmission & Distribution (T&D) structural engineering projects. This role will work closely with senior technical leaders to deliver FEED, concept, and detailed engineering designs, while coordinating with international teams in the UK, US, Middle East, and APAC. The position requires strong technical capability in structural design, the ability to guide and support GDSC teams, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality outputs in line with Mott MacDonald’s standards and processes. This role is ideal for someone ready to step into a leadership profile while still being closely involved in the technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
- Deliver FEED, concept, and detailed engineering designs for Oil & Gas and/or T&D structural projects.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations for steel and RCC structures.
- Develop appropriate structural framing systems for gravity and lateral loads.
- Undertake dynamic analysis and support the development of suitable structural systems.
- Review design deliverables including reports, calculations, 3D models, GA drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, including American codes, Eurocodes, and project-specific standards.
Project Coordination & Support
- Lead assigned design packages and coordinate closely with global design teams.
- Work with project managers on planning, identifying risks, resolving technical issues, and ensuring adherence to quality and timelines.
- Support workshare arrangements and coordination with other Mott MacDonald offices.
- Assist in developing design estimates, managing design risks, and supporting CDM-related compliance.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Plan workload and support resource allocation for civil/structural design activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance where required.
- Participate in cross-disciplinary meetings and contribute to integrated project delivery.
- Support implementation of engineering procedures, CAD/BIM standards, and QA processes.
Safety, Quality & Improvement
- Promote safe design principles and minimize operational and maintenance risks.
- Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into design work.
- Contribute to post-project reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Candidate Specification
Qualifications
- B.E./ B.Tech / M.Tech/M.E in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 14+ years of structural design experience in Oil & Gas/ Power Generation and/or T&D sectors.
Technical Skills
- Strong experience in RCC and steel structural design.
- Hands-on experience with gravity, lateral, and dynamic load design.
- Proficient in STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE (mandatory).
- Exposure to RISA 3D, Robot, Tekla Structural Designer is an advantage.
- Familiarity with international codes (AISC, ASCE, ACI, Eurocodes).
Project & Delivery Experience
- Experience working with offshore delivery teams and international stakeholders.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary project delivery for UK, US, SE Asia, Pacific, or Middle East markets.
- Experience in client-facing roles and design-build environments.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Ability to guide and support design teams in an offshore setup.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive, organized, and reliable with a strong focus on delivery quality.
- Ability to apply sound engineering judgement and problem solving skills to resolve structural design issues, construction queries, and interface challenges.
- Comfortable collaborating across time zones and supporting cross-sector assignments when needed.
- Good People Management capability.
