What You’ll do
In the role of Senior Consultant - Software Engineering at Principal Financial Group, you will be owner of, and expert on large sections of our solutions. Consistently able to reduce the complexity of projects, services, and processes in order to get more done with less work. Consult with business partners and make recommendations on future technical trends/directions that encompass multiple systems and teams to meet business strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions
Delivery
- Ownership & expertise on large sections of our solutions / multiple systems - Implementations & support
- Building application/systems roadmap – mid to longer term (6-12 months)
- Leverage enterprise level methodologies, tools, processes, technologies, design patterns in implementations and advance adoption within business unit
- Lead Continuous Improvement practices within area of influence
- Identify opportunities for business and technology Innovation aligned with HLIs
- Bring automation first mindset to automate business processes
- Collaborate with internal and external partners for implementing end to end solutions

Solution Design & Implementation
- Lead, design and communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders as well as communicate business objectives to the technical team and get buy-in.
- Support broad architecture; design and implement large services, complex libraries or major pieces of infrastructure.
- Quickly break down complex problems into potential solutions, knowns, and unknowns, in order to get to solid resolutions faster. Able to recognize and make trade-offs with respect to the whole system.
- Capable of debugging the most complex problems that the team encounters.
- Anticipate technical issues at the product level and make architectural and design decisions to avoid them

Qualifications
Who You Are
Education:Graduate – Bachelor’s degree (Engineering) or Masters in Computers or relevant
Experience:10 to 13 years of IT application development experience
Must Have Skills
- Programming (Java & TypeScript) Must Have Expert in both languages with strong coding, debugging, and production support experience
- Solution Design & Architecture Must Have Strong HLD/LLD, SOLID principles, 12-Factor Apps, design patterns, and architecture trade-off analysis
- Distributed Systems Must Have Event-Driven Architecture, CQRS
- AWS Cloud Engineering Must Have Hands-on experience with S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Fargate, Docker, CloudWatch
- NFR Engineering Must Have Security, Performance, Scalability, Reliability, Observability, and Maintainability by design
- DevOps & SRE Must Have CI/CD, Blue-Green Deployments, Monitoring, Incident Management, Operational Excellence
- Technical Leadership Must Have Technical ownership, architecture reviews, mentoring, and driving engineering best practices
Good-to-Have Skills
- Streaming Platforms (Kafka/Kinesis) Hands-on implementation experience
- Kubernetes / EKS Container orchestration and platform operations
- Terraform / Infrastructure as Code Automated infrastructure provisioning
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD) Domain modeling and bounded context design
- Event Sourcing & Advanced Patterns Scalable distributed architecture patterns
- AIOps & Advanced Observability Intelligent monitoring and operational insights
- Security Architecture Threat modeling and secure solution design
