As a Principal Engineer, you are one of the most senior technical leaders within the organization. You possess deep expertise across systems, architectures, and platforms — and you apply that knowledge to design, implement, and guide scalable, cloud-native solutions that meet the needs of multiple product teams.

You are a strategic thinker and hands-on technologist who balances innovation with pragmatism. You can dive into code and build proofs of concept (POCs), but your greatest impact comes through your ability to architect complex systems, influence technical direction, and elevate the engineering culture across the organization.

You’re trusted as an architect and advisor to other engineers, helping shape designs, validate approaches, and provide technical mentorship. You collaborate across teams — often working with other principal engineers, staff engineers, and engineering managers — to define and deliver coherent, scalable, and maintainable systems that serve as the backbone of our applications.

You represent engineering excellence and model what thoughtful, well-architected software looks like.

Responsibilities

• Architect end-to-end solutions for complex business and technical challenges that span multiple teams and products.


• Define technical vision and architecture for cloud-native, distributed systems built primarily on .NET (C#), Angular, and DocumentDB.


• Collaborate closely with other principal engineers to design unified, scalable platforms that meet the needs of all product teams.


• Work with engineering leadership to establish best practices, design standards, and technology roadmaps that align with business goals.


• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff and senior engineers, guiding them through design and implementation decisions.


• Conduct design and architecture reviews, ensuring solutions meet requirements for performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.


• Build proofs of concept (POCs) and reference implementations to validate new approaches and technologies.


• Drive modernization and cloud transformation efforts, advocating for and implementing AWS-first design principles (Azure and GCP experience also valued).


• Engage in hands-on coding when needed, setting a high standard for quality, readability, and maintainability.


• Influence cross-functional collaboration, working with product managers, architects, and development teams to align on technical strategy.


• Serve as a trusted advisor, reviewing and providing feedback on major system designs across the organization.


• Champion innovation and continuous improvement across engineering practices and platform evolution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.


• 13+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in .NET (C#) and Angular.


• Proven experience architecting and delivering enterprise-grade, cloud-native applications at scale.


• Expert-level understanding of system design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.


• Strong knowledge of AWS (preferred), with experience designing for scalability, resiliency, and cost optimization.


• Demonstrated ability to lead architectural initiatives and influence technical direction across multiple teams.


• Strong coding, debugging, and system optimization skills — capable of producing high-quality reference implementations.


• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans.


• Track record of mentoring engineers and improving organizational technical maturity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial systems, credit underwriting, or risk management platforms.


• Deep familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).


• Experience driving cross-functional architectural initiatives and platform migrations.


• Demonstrated success in aligning technical roadmaps with long-term business strategies.


• Recognized as a technical thought leader, with the ability to influence culture, standards, and practices across engineering.


• Passion for exploring new technologies, validating them through POCs, and guiding adoption across teams.
