Qualifications

Job description

Purpose:

The Senior Chip Level Engineer (L3 & L4 Engineer) is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing laptops, desktops, printers and scanners at the motherboard level. This role requires expertise in schematic and Board view analysis, power sequence troubleshooting, BIOS programming, BGA rework, and Apple Mac logic board repairs. The engineer will handle complex hardware failures, mentor juniors, ensure high-quality repairs, and contribute to achieving service quality and turnaround time targets.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Advanced Chip-Level Diagnostics & Repair

• Responsible for diagnosing and repairing laptop, desktop, printer and scanner motherboards at the chip/component level.
• Effectively analyze the motherboard schematics and board view files to identify and isolate hardware faults.
• Accountable to troubleshoot and resolve motherboard issues, including power, display, charging, boot, short circuit, overheating, liquid damage and other hardware-related failures.
• Perform power sequence analysis, signal tracing and voltage rail diagnostics to identify faulty components.
• Repair multilayer PCBs and recover damaged motherboards whenever feasible.

2. Component-Level Repair & Soldering

• Replace and rework electronic components such as MOSFETs, Power ICs, BIOS ICs, Embedded Controllers (EC), PCH, CPU/GPU (where applicable), and QFN, QFP, & BGA packages.
• Perform BGA Rebelling, IC replacement, precision soldering, desoldering and repair of damaged PCB tracks, pads and connectors using professional rework equipment.

3. BIOS & Firmware Management

• Program, edit, repair and flash BIOS/UEFI firmware using industry-standard tools.
• Remove BIOS passwords, recover corrupted firmware and perform firmware updates as per OEM standards.
• Work with BIOS editing and programming tools such as Hex Workshop, UEFI Tool, BIOS Editors, and IO Programmers.

4. Apple Mac Repair

• Diagnose and repair Apple MacBook and Mac Mini logic boards at the component level.
• Troubleshoot and resolve macOS hardware and software issues.
• Repair / replace MacBook components - display, keyboard, battery, trackpad, charging port, etc.,
• Install, configure and optimize macOS to ensure optimal system performance.

5. Diagnostic Equipment Operation

• Operate advanced diagnostic and repair equipment, including Digital Storage Oscilloscopes (DSO), Thermal Cameras, Digital Multi meters, Microscopes, DC Power Supplies, BGA Rework Machines, IO Programmers, and SMD Rework Stations.
• Analyze and interpret voltage rails, clock signals, reset signals, enable signals, power sequencing, and current consumption patterns to accurately diagnose motherboard faults.

6. Card-Level & Software Support

• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize Windows and macOS operating systems.
• Upgrade and replace hardware components, including RAM, SSDs, keyboards, displays, batteries, and other internal parts.
• Perform data backup, recovery, preventive maintenance, and resolve software and basic network-related issues.

7. Quality Assurance

• Ensure every repaired device passes functional and quality testing.
• Follow ESD safety standards and company repair procedures.
• Maintain repair documentation and service records.
• Achieve repair turnaround time (TAT) targets and minimize repeat failures and warranty claims.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Diploma / ITI / Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Computer Hardware, Electrical. Relevant certifications in Chip-Level Repair or BGA Repair will be an added advantage.
• 4 to 8 years of hands-on experience in laptop and desktop chip-level repair. Proven expertise in advanced motherboard diagnostics and BGA repair.
