Job summary

Amrit Cement Shillong invites a laboratory chemist to conduct chemical analyses on limestone, bauxite, clinker, and related samples, ensuring accuracy for kiln feed and raw mix.

You will monitor quality parameters, calibrate equipment, generate daily reports, and support process optimization while complying with ISO standards and safety procedures. Candidates should have hands-on XRF/XRD and wet chemistry experience, and be able to lead a small lab team in a busy cement plant.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analysis of limestone, laterite, bauxite, iron ore, shale, additives, kiln feed, hot meal, clinker, and other process samples.
  • Monitor and control the quality of raw mix and kiln feed to maintain LSF, SM, and AM.
  • Perform analysis using XRF, XRD, wet chemistry, and other laboratory instruments.
  • Monitor pyro process quality parameters and recommend corrective actions based on laboratory results.
  • Coordinate with Production and Mines to ensure consistent raw material quality.
  • Analyze clinker quality and identify deviations affecting kiln performance and cement quality.
  • Prepare daily laboratory reports, quality trend analysis, and process control reports.
  • Ensure timely sampling and testing as per SOPs.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper documentation.
  • Supervise laboratory technicians and junior chemists in sample preparation and testing.
  • Participate in troubleshooting process quality issues and support process optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, laboratory safety practices, and quality management systems.
  • Maintain proper records of test results, calibration reports, and quality documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce process variability and improve product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct chemical analysis of limestone, laterite, bauxite, iron ore, shale, additives, kiln feed, hot meal, clinker, and other process samples.
  • Monitor and control the quality of raw mix and kiln feed to maintain the required Lime Saturation Factor (LSF), Silica Modulus (SM), and Alumina Modulus (AM).
  • Perform analysis using XRF, XRD, wet chemistry, and other laboratory instruments.
  • Monitor pyro process quality parameters and recommend corrective actions based on laboratory results.
  • Coordinate with the Production and Mines departments to ensure consistent raw material quality.
  • Analyze clinker quality and identify deviations affecting kiln performance and cement quality.
  • Prepare daily laboratory reports, quality trend analysis, and process control reports.
  • Ensure timely sampling and testing as per standard operating procedures.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper documentation.
  • Supervise laboratory technicians and junior chemists in sample preparation and testing.
  • Participate in troubleshooting process quality issues and support process optimization initiatives.

Key Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of cement manufacturing process.
  • Excellent understanding of raw mix design and pyro process chemistry.
  • Hands-on experience in XRF, XRD, wet chemical analysis, and laboratory instruments.
  • Knowledge of clinker quality parameters and process optimization.
  • Understanding of kiln operation, raw mill, and process quality control.
  • Knowledge of BIS/IS standards applicable to cement manufacturing.
  • Laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and laboratory reporting.
