Job summary

Gaius is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the services powering our product. You will own core backend architecture, APIs, data models, and reliability, while elevating the engineering bar across the team.

You will design and maintain scalable backend services, lead architectural decisions, optimize performance, and collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams. Mentoring engineers and strong communication are essential in this hybrid, Bengaluru-based role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience building backend systems.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, Python or Node.js.
• Experience designing RESTful and/or gRPC APIs and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL); NoSQL and Redis a plus.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containers/Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) and event-driven architectures.
• Strong testing, CI/CD, monitoring and security practices.
• Excellent communication and mentoring abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
