We are seeking an experienced AS/400 Senior Developer / Technical Lead to join our team and drive the development, enhancement, and support of mission‑critical IBM i (AS/400) applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in RPG, RPGLE, CLLE, and DB2/400, along with the ability to design scalable solutions, mentor team members, and collaborate effectively with business and technical stakeholders. This role requires a hands‑on professional who can contribute to application development, troubleshoot complex issues, lead code quality initiatives, and support the modernization of AS/400 systems while ensuring high standards of performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain AS/400 applications using RPG, RPGLE, CLLE, COBOL, and DB2/400.
- Create comprehensive technical design documents for AS/400 modules, programs, and components.
- Develop and manage reusable components and frameworks to improve development efficiency and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and production issues within defined SLAs.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures for recurring issues.
- Participate in effort estimation, sprint planning, and project delivery activities.
- Perform peer code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Participate in client meetings, demos, and technical discussions to showcase delivered solutions.
- Support Agile/Scrum delivery processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish and optimize development processes, version control practices, automation, and deployment procedures.
- Mentor junior team members through knowledge sharing, technical guidance, documentation, and training sessions.
- Ensure application quality through unit testing, integration testing, and adherence to quality standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong expertise in RPG, RPGLE, CLLE, and DB2/400.
- Hands‑on experience in designing, developing, and supporting AS/400‑based applications.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills.
- Experience with application architecture, solution design, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of job scheduling tools such as Control‑M or equivalent.
- Experience working with Agile, Scrum, and iterative development methodologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring capabilities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with web services, REST APIs, XML, and modern integration technologies on IBM i (AS/400).
