Job summary

DESRI is seeking a resourceful electrical engineer to join its Design and Engineering team in Hyderabad. You will support BESS design and commissioning efforts, focusing on reliability and performance across the storage fleet, from design through operation.

The candidate should have 2–6 years of experience in BESS design/commissioning, with hands-on knowledge of BMS, PCS, EMS/SCADA, and related safety standards. Collaboration with US and Hyderabad teams is required in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2–6 years of experience in BESS design, commissioning, or technical asset management for utility-scale energy storage or solar + storage projects.
• Working knowledge of battery system components: modules, racks, BMS architecture, PCS/inverters, EMS/SCADA, HVAC/chillers, fire suppression, MV transformers and switchgear.
• Familiarity with US standards: NFPA 855, NEC 706, UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 70E, IEEE 80, NERC reliability.
• Experience diagnosing faults or performance deviations from operational or commissioning data in complex electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Review BESS design packages (civil, electrical, structural) and provide technical comments for NFPA 855, NEC 706, and UL 9540/9540A alignment.
• Evaluate battery system architecture including rack layout, BMS hierarchy, PCS sizing, MV transformer integration, and BOP design.
• Provide BESS/PCS QA/QC support, including inspection, exhibit prep and testing activities.
• Support procurement Technical Evaluations for battery systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, and switchgear.

Job description

We are looking for a resourceful and driven professional to join DESRI, based out of the firm’s Hyderabad, India office. The candidate will be a part of Design and Engineering team and will regularly interact with the U.S. and Hyderabad-based teams, as well as external parties. The candidate will be a part of a small, inclusive, highly skilled team responsible for supporting DESRI’s portfolio of wind, solar, and storage projects within a dynamic environment that values collaboration, thoughtful problem solving, and attention to detail.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will serve as a technical resource for BESS design and commissioning activities, supporting the reliability and performance of DESRI’s storage fleet from design through operation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Review 30/60/90% BESS engineering design packages — civil, electrical, and structural and provide technical comments to ensure alignment with NFPA 855, NEC Article 706, and UL 9540/9540A requirements.
• Evaluate battery system architecture, including rack/module layout, BMS hierarchy, PCS sizing, MV transformer integration, and balance-of-plant (BOP) design.
• Provide BESS/PCS QA/QC support, including inspection, technical exhibit prep and testing activities.
• Support procurement technical evaluations for battery systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, and switchgear; assess OEM submittals against project specifications.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should hold –

• B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering or any relevant field with 2-6 years of experience in BESS design, commissioning, or technical asset management for utility-scale energy storage or solar + storage projects.
• Working knowledge of BESS subcomponents: battery modules and racks, BMS architecture, PCS/inverters, EMS/SCADA systems, HVAC/chiller systems, fire suppression systems, MV transformers, and switchgear.
• Familiarity with relevant US codes and standards: NFPA 855, NEC Article 706, UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 70E, IEEE 80, and NERC reliability standards.
• Experience analysing operational or commissioning data to diagnose system faults or performance deviations in complex electrical systems.
• Hands-on commissioning experience with large-format lithium-ion battery systems, including BMS/PCS/EMS integration, FAT/SAT execution, and capacity testing.
