Job summary

Kimbal in India is seeking a Senior ABAP Consultant to join our in-house SAP team, focusing on S/4HANA Cloud. You'll implement clean-core extensions and partner with functional teams to deliver enhancements while preserving standard objects.

You will design ABAP Cloud extensions using RAP, develop CDS views and OData APIs, and manage integrations via CPI/BAS. This is a long-term role emphasizing production support and ongoing improvements.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of ABAP experience with at least 2+ years on S/4HANA Cloud or ABAP Cloud.
• Hands-on experience with RAP, CDS Views, and OData services.
• Experience with SAP Integration Suite (CPI) for integrations.
• Familiarity with SAP BAS or Eclipse-based ADT for cloud development.
• Understanding of clean-core principles and side-by-side vs in-app extensibility.
• Knowledge of SAP Cloud ALM for transport management and cloud releases.
• Knowledge of MM/SD/FI data flows in SAP environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and build ABAP Cloud extensions using RAP RESTful ABAP Programming Model.
• Develop CDS views, behavior definitions, and OData APIs for Fiori and external use.
• Work within Key User Extensibility and Developer Extensibility frameworks.
• Build and maintain integrations with non-SAP systems via SAP Integration Suite.
• Collaborate with functional teams to translate requirements into safe extension designs.
• Participate in release cycle testing for S/4HANA Cloud quarterly updates.
• Contribute to the clean-core roadmap and remediation of legacy code.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior ABAP Consultant to join our in-house SAP team supporting an S/4HANA Cloud landscape. This is a long-term, in-house role not project-based consulting covering a balanced mix of production support and ongoing enhancement work. You'll operate within a clean-core philosophy, building extensions the right way rather than touching standard objects, and you'll be a key technical partner to business and functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Enhancement / Development (70%)

• Design and build custom extensions using ABAP Cloud (RAP RESTful ABAP Programming Model)
• Develop CDS views, behavior definitions, and OData/SAP Graph APIs for Fiori and external consumption
• Work within Key User Extensibility and Developer Extensibility frameworks as appropriate to the landscape edition
• Build and maintain integrations (SAP Integration Suite / CPI, APIs) with non-SAP systems
• Partner with functional consultants (MM, SD, FI/CO, etc.) to convert business requirements into extension-safe technical designs
• Participate in release cycle testing S/4HANA Cloud's quarterly updates require proactive regression testing of custom extensions
• Contribute to the clean-core roadmap — flagging legacy custom code / modifications for remediation

Support (30%)

• Provide L2/L3 technical support for custom extensions, interfaces, and integrations
• Perform root-cause analysis on production issues and implement permanent fixes within clean-core guardrails
• Support critical business cycles (period-end, month-end) with on-call technical assistance
• Manage transports and releases through the cloud ALM / transport management system
• Monitor and troubleshoot extensibility apps and custom CDS views/APIs for performance issues

Must-Have Technical Skills

• 6–10+ years of ABAP experience, with at least 2+ years specifically on S/4HANA Cloud or ABAP Cloud
• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • SAP BTP exposure (since most S/4HANA Cloud extensions increasingly live there)
  • SAP Integration Suite (CPI) for integration scenarios
  • RAP (RESTful ABAP Programming Model) — behavior definitions, behavior implementations, projections
  • CDS Views (including annotations for Fiori Elements)
  • ABAP Cloud development model and released APIs/BAPIs (vs. classic unrestricted ABAP)
  • OData services / SAP API Business Hub consumption
• Understanding of clean-core principles and side‑side vs. in-app extensibility trade‑offs
• Experience with SAP Business Application Studio (BAS) and/or Eclipse-based ADT for cloud development
• Familiarity with SAP Cloud ALM or equivalent for transport/change management in cloud landscapes
• Working knowledge of at least one functional module's data flow (MM/SD/FI preferred)
