SECURITY MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Job Purpose
The Security Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security strategies, policies, and programs to protect the company’s people, assets, facilities, information, and business operations. The role will lead site-level security operations, manage security personnel and vendors, conduct risk assessments and audits, coordinate emergency response activities, and ensure compliance with applicable legal and organizational requirements.
2. Key Objectives
- Develop and implement robust security strategies, policies, standards, and procedures to safeguard personnel, assets, facilities, and information.
- Identify security risks, vulnerabilities, and emerging threats and implement appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
- Lead, manage, train, and develop the security team to ensure effective and professional security operations.
- Conduct regular security assessments, audits, inspections, and investigations to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain effective emergency response, crisis management, and incident management plans.
- Ensure security requirements are integrated into business processes, projects, and site operations.
- Manage relationships with security vendors, contractors, and external agencies, including law enforcement authorities.
- Promote security awareness and ensure employees understand applicable security policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
- Drive security governance, assurance, vendor security, compliance, and audit programs.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Security Operations
- Develop, implement, and periodically review site security plans, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Oversee day-to-day site-level security operations and ensure effective deployment of security resources.
- Ensure timely completion of security projects, initiatives, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
- Monitor security systems and ensure effective operation of access control, CCTV surveillance, visitor management, alarm systems, and other security technologies.
- Identify operational gaps and recommend effective solutions to strengthen the overall security posture.
- Ensure security arrangements are appropriate for site activities, personnel, assets, and business requirements.
B. Risk Assessment, Audits & Compliance
- Conduct regular security risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, inspections, and audits.
- Identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and areas of non-compliance and establish appropriate mitigation measures.
- Develop and monitor action plans to close identified security gaps within agreed timelines.
- Maintain security records, reports, inspection findings, incident records, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Indian laws, regulations, contractual requirements, company standards, and security best practices.
- Support internal, client, and external security audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
C. Security Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and manage security personnel, supervisors, guards, and other security resources.
- Support recruitment, selection, onboarding, deployment, and performance management of security personnel.
- Develop and conduct security training, toolbox talks, drills, and awareness programs.
- Ensure security personnel are competent in access control, visitor management, emergency response, incident reporting, patrols, and other assigned responsibilities.
- Monitor manpower deployment, attendance, discipline, performance, and compliance with established procedures.
- Promote professional conduct, accountability, integrity, and a strong security culture.
D. Incident Management & Investigation
- Establish effective processes for reporting, responding to, investigating, and documenting security incidents.
- Lead investigations related to theft, unauthorized access, trespassing, security violations, property damage, workplace violence, suspicious activities, and other security incidents.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain incident reports and provide timely updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies during serious incidents and emergencies.
- Ensure lessons learned from incidents are incorporated into security procedures and training.
E. Emergency Response & Crisis Management
- Develop, implement, and periodically review Emergency Response Plans and Crisis Management Plans.
- Define roles and responsibilities for security personnel and other emergency response team members.
- Coordinate emergency drills, mock exercises, and preparedness assessments.
- Ensure security personnel are trained to respond effectively to fire, medical emergencies, natural disasters, unauthorized intrusion, violence, and other critical situations.
- Maintain effective communication and escalation mechanisms during emergencies.
- Coordinate with relevant government authorities, police, fire services, medical services, and other emergency agencies when required.
F. Access Control & Security Technology
- Manage and monitor access control systems, CCTV, visitor management systems, alarms, barriers, gates, and other security infrastructure.
- Ensure access rights are appropriately controlled, reviewed, and periodically updated.
- Monitor CCTV coverage and ensure cameras and recording systems remain operational.
- Identify technology gaps and recommend suitable security solutions and upgrades.
- Coordinate with IT, Facilities, Engineering, HR, and other relevant departments for effective integration of security systems.
G. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage security service providers and other security-related vendors to ensure contractual and operational requirements are met.
- Conduct periodic performance reviews of security vendors and initiate corrective actions where required.
- Ensure security manpower, equipment, training, documentation, and statutory requirements are maintained by vendors.
- Maintain effective relationships with clients, employees, management, contractors, visitors, and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and other government authorities whenever required.
- Communicate significant security issues, risks, incidents, and recommendations to client and management teams in a timely manner.
H. Security Awareness & Training
- Develop and deliver security awareness programs for employees, contractors, visitors, and security personnel.
- Conduct training on access control, visitor management, emergency response, suspicious activity reporting, workplace security, and incident reporting.
- Promote a proactive security culture across the organization.
- Ensure employees understand their roles and responsibilities during security incidents and emergencies.
I. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare periodic security performance reports, dashboards, incident summaries, audit reports, and management updates.
- Keep management informed of major accomplishments, critical issues, risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Document and continuously improve security processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Establish measurable security KPIs and monitor performance against agreed objectives.
- Identify emerging security threats, technologies, trends, and regulatory requirements and recommend appropriate improvements.

5. Required Skills & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualifications in security management will be an advantage.

- Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
- Certified Security Manager (CSM)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
