Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Chennai is seeking a Secondary Design Engineer for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). You will design LCC schematics, prepare protection and interlocking diagrams, and coordinate with cross-functional teams. 5–10 years in Electrical & Electronics engineering with CAD proficiency is expected.
Proficiency in E3 is a plus and knowledge of GIS standards is beneficial. The role requires collaboration, self-review of documents, and preparation of BOMs as part of Digital
You will be a part of the GIS LCC Secondary team and support the execution of LCC engineering. Your work involves mainly creating electrical circuit diagrams and supporting documents. We use the E3 tool for generating the schematics. You will be an individual contributor who would deliver the tasks as per the given inputs and when required need to work in coordination with other colleagues and should exhibit good collaborative skills to complete the task. In the absence of your Lead or in some cases, you will be required to interact with our counterparts to get/clarify queries. You may also interact with other departments like Primary, Project Management, and Production.
How you’ll make an impact:
1. Preparation of LCC schematics for High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (66 kV and above)
2. Preparation of GIS CB / Disconnector / Earthing switch / Fast Acting Earthing switches / CT & VT schematics
3. Preparation of JB’s for CT, VT, and Density monitors
4. AC / DC Load calculation
5. Preparation of Interlocking table and schematics for various Busbar configurations
6. Addressing the technical queries raised by the customer during the execution of a project, if required.
7. Interaction with various cross-function teams like Primary, Project Management, and Production, when required.
8. Self-reviewing the documents before submitting them to the Lead Engineer
9. Generating Preliminary BOM by understanding the importance and consequences of releasing it
10. Preparation of Mimic boards inline with SLD and Layout drawings
11. Understanding and preparation of Communication Architecture diagrams
12. Preparation of protection schematics (Trafo, Line, Busbar) when we’ve integrated protection in LCC
13. Selection of Bay Control Unit and other protection IEDs (Basic level)
14. Preparation of complete Digital LCC drawings as part of Digital Substation (with NCITs, MU’s, SAM600 modules, etc...)
15. Preparation of Gas Density monitoring panels using MSM (Modular Switchgear Monitoring)
17. Adhering to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
18. Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:
Years of experience: 5 – 10 years with B.E / Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Excellent knowledge of CAD tools (Good to have experience in e3, not mandatory)
Very Good knowledge of Protection & Control Systems for T & D / Gen
Familiarity with codes and applicable standards like IEC, IEEE, ANSI, etc...
Basic knowledge of GIS
Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
Ability to work in a team and maintain professionalism
Good communication and interpersonal skills
