Job summary

Christel House is seeking a School Counsellor to nurture students' academic, emotional, social and personal development. You will provide guidance, support, and interventions to help students navigate challenges and succeed in school and life.

Responsibilities include counselling, academic support, crisis intervention, advocacy, collaboration with staff and parents, and implementing character development activities for students’ growth and readiness for future education and careers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counselling, education, social work or related field.
  • Foundational understanding of child development and mental health is essential.
  • Knowledge of counselling theories, assessment and intervention strategies.
  • Certifications in child/adolescent counselling or trauma-informed care are desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with students, parents and staff.
  • Empathy, patience, and adaptability in diverse educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counselling to students addressing personal, social, and behavioural issues.
  • Support students in setting academic goals and developing study skills; collaborate with teachers and parents.
  • Respond to crises or emergencies affecting students and coordinate with stakeholders as needed.
  • Advocate for students within the school and refer to external resources as required.
  • Collaborate with teachers, admins and parents to address student needs and promote a positive environment.
  • Plan and implement character development activities focused on personal growth and career readiness.
  • Lead classroom discussions to foster critical thinking and ethical reflection.
  • Document counselling sessions and evaluate program effectiveness for improvements.
  • Engage parents/guardians about student progress and behaviors; support home reinforcement.

Job Title: School Counsellor


Job Overview: A School Counsellor fosters students' academic, emotional, social,

and personal development. They provide guidance, support, and interventions to

help students navigate challenges and succeed in their academic and personal lives.

They help students manage their own behaviour, resolve conflicts and foster

emotional and mental well-being.

Responsibilities:

1. Student Counselling: Providing individual and group counselling to students to

help them address personal, social, and behavioural issues that may affect their

academic performance and well-being.

2. Academic Support: Assisting students in setting academic goals, developing

study skills, and addressing academic challenges. Collaborating with teachers and

parents to support student learning.

3. Crisis Intervention: Responding to crises or emergencies affecting students,

such as bereavement, trauma, or behavioral crises. Providing immediate support

and coordinating with school administrators, parents, and external agencies when

necessary.

4. Advocacy and Referrals: Advocating for students' needs within the school

community and referring students and families to external resources and services,

such as mental health professionals or community organizations.

5. Consultation and Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, administrators,

and parents to address student needs and promote a positive school environment.

Providing insights and recommendations based on student assessments and

observations.

6. Educational and Career Development Programs: Planning and implementing

the Character Development Program related to personal development, social skills,

academic success, and career readiness. These include class sessions and

activities for students.

7. Facilitating Discussions: Leading classroom discussions and activities that

encourage critical thinking and reflection on moral dilemmas, ethical issues, and

personal values.


8. Role Modelling: Serving as a positive role model for students by demonstrating

values in practice and fostering a supportive and respectful classroom environment.

9. Documentation and Evaluation: Maintaining accurate records of counselling

sessions, assessments, and interventions. Evaluating the effectiveness of

counselling programs and interventions to make improvements as needed.

10. Parental Engagement: Communicating with parents and caregivers about the

importance of developing their character, discussing students' progress and

behavior, and encouraging reinforcement of values at home.

11. Admissions : Conducting observations and assessments for KG student

candidates and generating individual reports of their performance for new

admissions.

12. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development to

stay updated on best practices in school counseling, relevant laws and regulations,

and emerging trends in education and counselling.

Qualification/Requirements:

Additional Certifications/Diplomas in child and adolescent counselling, trauma-informed care, or mental health counselling

Ability to manage schedules, maintain records, and coordinate programs effectively.

Capacity to work with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
