Job summary

Persistent Systems is seeking an SAP ABAP Technical Lead to own end-to-end SAP technical delivery across implementation, enhancement, and support initiatives. You will lead cross-functional teams, design scalable solutions, and ensure adherence to development standards.

The role demands strong hands-on ABAP expertise, RICEF object delivery, and coordination with Basis, Security, and Data Migration teams to ensure smooth project execution and go-live readiness.

Qualifications

• 12–15 years of experience in SAP technical development and project delivery.
• Proven expertise in ABAP development (classical and OO ABAP).
• Experience with SAP RICEF objects: Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms.
• Strong knowledge of SAP integration technologies: IDOCs, RFCs, BAPIs, APIs.

Job description

We are looking for an SAP Technical Lead with strong expertise in SAP ABAP development and SAP project delivery to lead end-to-end technical execution across SAP implementation, enhancement, support, and transformation programs. The role involves driving technical solution delivery, managing cross-functional dependencies, coordinating with multiple SAP workstreams, and ensuring successful execution across development, testing, deployment, cutover, and post-go-live phases.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead end-to-end SAP technical delivery for implementation, enhancement, rollout, and support projects.
• Participate in requirement gathering workshops and solution design discussions with business and functional teams.
• Translate functional requirements into scalable technical solutions and detailed technical specifications.
• Establish and enforce SAP development standards, technical governance, and best practices.
• Drive delivery quality, technical compliance, and project milestones across multiple initiatives.
• Lead the design, development, and delivery of SAP RICEF objects including Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, and Forms.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to ABAP development teams.
• Collaborate closely with SAP Functional Consultants across SD, MM, FI, CO, and PP modules.
• Coordinate with SAP Basis teams for landscape management, transports, upgrades, and environment readiness.
• Work with SAP Security and GRC teams to support role design, authorizations, and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate with Integration and Middleware teams for interface development, monitoring, and issue resolution.
• Support Data Migration activities including data loads, reconciliation, validation, and cutover planning.
• Collaborate with Reporting and Analytics teams to deliver reporting and technical enablement solutions.
• Coordinate SIT, UAT, Regression Testing, defect resolution, and release readiness activities with testing teams.
• Work closely with Infrastructure and Cloud teams to ensure system availability and platform readiness.
• Support PMO and Project Managers with project planning, status reporting, risk mitigation, and milestone tracking.
• Manage technical dependencies and coordination with implementation partners, vendors, and system integrators.
• Lead SAP integrations using IDOCs, RFCs, BAPIs, APIs, file-based integrations, and middleware platforms.
• Troubleshoot complex technical and integration issues during testing and production deployments.
• Support deployment planning, transport management, cutover execution, and go-live activities.
• Provide post-go-live hyper care support and ensure stable business operations.

Expertise You’ll Bring:

• 12 to 14 years of experience in SAP Technical Development and SAP Project Delivery.
• Extensive experience in Classical ABAP and Object-Oriented ABAP (OO ABAP).
• Strong experience developing Reports, ALV Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, and Forms.
• Expertise in SmartForms, Adobe Forms, and SAP Scripts.
• Strong knowledge of User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, and Enhancement Framework.
• Experience with IDOCs, RFCs, BAPIs, APIs, and SAP integration technologies.
• Strong experience with middleware integrations and enterprise application integrations.
• Expertise in debugging, troubleshooting, code optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience reviewing technical designs, code quality, and development standards.
• Good functional understanding of SAP SD, MM, FI, CO, and PP business processes.
• Ability to translate business and functional requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience coordinating with SAP Basis, Development, Integration, Security, GRC, Data Migration, Testing, Reporting, Analytics, Infrastructure, and Cloud teams.
• Experience supporting end-to-end SAP project lifecycle including design, development, testing, deployment, cutover, go-live, and hypercare.
• Strong understanding of SAP transport management and release management processes.
• Experience supporting complex SAP implementation and transformation programs.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation capabilities.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, risks, deliverables, and timelines in complex environments.
• Experience working with system integrators, implementation partners, and external vendors.
• Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, and SAP Activate methodologies is preferred.
• SAP S/4HANA implementation experience is highly desirable.
• Experience in technical leadership, team mentoring, and governance management is preferred.
