Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced SAP ABAP Consultant with strong hands‑on expertise in ABAP development, technical customization, and enhancement of SAP applications, preferably within a manufacturing organization.

The candidate should have proven experience in understanding internal stakeholder requirements and translating business needs into customized SAP solutions. The role involves developing and enhancing SAP reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows to support manufacturing operations and business processes.

The ideal candidate should have experience working closely with internal teams such as Production, Planning, Procurement, Inventory, Finance, Sales, and Plant Operations to develop and maintain SAP solutions that improve operational efficiency and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. SAP ABAP Development and Customization

• Design, develop, test, and maintain custom SAP ABAP programs based on business and internal stakeholder requirements.


• Develop custom reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows (RICEF/RICEFW objects).


• Customize existing SAP functionalities to meet organization‑specific manufacturing and operational requirements.


• Develop and maintain ABAP reports using ALV, classical reports, interactive reports, and other relevant reporting techniques.


• Work on ABAP enhancements using User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, Enhancement Framework, and implicit or explicit enhancements.


• Develop custom objects while following SAP development standards, performance guidelines, and best practices.


• Analyze existing custom developments, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective and preventive solutions.

2. Manufacturing Business Process Customization

• Develop and enhance SAP solutions supporting manufacturing processes, including production planning, production execution, inventory management, procurement, and material movements.


• Work on custom developments related to Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, work centers, production orders, and production confirmations, as required.


• Develop reports and enhancements for material consumption, stock availability, goods movements, production output, scrap, and production variance analysis.


• Support plant‑specific business requirements involving inventory tracking, batch management, material traceability, and quality‑related processes.


• Collaborate with functional consultants to understand manufacturing workflows and implement technical solutions aligned with business requirements.


• Develop customized reports and interfaces to support production monitoring, plant performance analysis, and operational reporting.

3. Internal Stakeholder Management and Requirement Analysis

• Engage directly with internal stakeholders across Production, Supply Chain, Procurement, Warehouse, Finance, Quality, and Sales teams.


• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.


• Recommend suitable technical solutions using standard SAP capabilities, enhancements, or custom ABAP development.


• Evaluate the feasibility, impact, and maintainability of requested customizations.


• Coordinate with SAP functional consultants and business users to validate requirements and finalize technical designs.


• Provide technical estimates, effort assessments, and delivery timelines for custom development requests.


• Conduct requirement walkthroughs, demonstrations, and knowledge‑transfer sessions with stakeholders.

4. SAP Module Integration

• Develop and maintain custom solutions supporting SAP MM, PP, SD, FI/CO, and QM business processes.


• Work on IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, user exits, and other integration mechanisms to enable communication between SAP modules and external systems.


• Develop and troubleshoot interfaces for material master data, purchase orders, inventory transactions, production orders, delivery processing, and financial postings.


• Support data exchange between SAP and third‑party manufacturing systems, warehouse applications, shop‑floor systems, and other enterprise applications, as applicable.


• Collaborate with functional and integration teams to resolve cross‑module issues.

5. Technical Skills and Advanced ABAP Development

• Strong hands‑on experience in ABAP programming, including Reports, ALV, Data Dictionary, modularization techniques, and Open SQL.


• Experience in performance optimization, debugging, runtime analysis, and SQL trace analysis.


• Knowledge of BDC, BAPI, IDoc, RFC, and data migration or conversion techniques.


• Experience with SAP Smart Forms, SAPscript, and Adobe Forms, as applicable.


• Knowledge of ABAP Objects (ABAP OO), classes, interfaces, and object‑oriented development.


• Experience with SAP enhancements, BAdIs, User Exits, and custom business logic implementation.


• Exposure to ABAP on HANA, CDS Views, AMDP, and OData services is preferred for S/4HANA environments.

6. Testing, Support, and Documentation

• Perform unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).


• Troubleshoot production issues, debug custom programs, and perform root‑cause analysis.


• Optimize existing custom code to improve system performance and operational efficiency.


• Prepare technical specifications, development documentation, test cases, and deployment instructions.


• Support transports, releases, deployment activities, and post‑implementation stabilization.


• Ensure compliance with SAP coding standards, change management procedures, and development governance.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong hands‑on experience in SAP ABAP development and customization.


• Prior experience in the manufacturing domain, preferably supporting plant‑level operations.


• Proven experience in custom development based on internal stakeholder and business‑specific requirements.


• Strong knowledge of RICEF/RICEFW developments, including reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms.


• Experience with BAdIs, User Exits, Customer Exits, BAPIs, IDocs, and debugging.


• Good understanding of SAP MM and PP processes, with exposure to FI/CO, SD, or QM integration.


• Experience in requirement gathering, technical design, development, testing, and production support.


• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SAP S/4HANA and ABAP on HANA.


• Knowledge of CDS Views, AMDP, OData, and SAP Gateway.


• Experience in ABAP Objects and performance tuning.


• Exposure to Fiori application development or SAP integration technologies.


• Experience supporting multi‑plant or multi‑location manufacturing environments.


• SAP ABAP certification is an added advantage.
