Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Learning

• Plan and deliver high-quality Sanskrit lessons in line with the CBSE curriculum and school academic framework.
• Teach Sanskrit across appropriate classes, potentially including Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, depending on the school's requirements.
• Develop students' proficiency in:
• Sanskrit grammar and vocabulary
• Reading and comprehension
• Translation and interpretation
• Written expression
• Sanskrit literature
• Communication and conversational Sanskrit
• Use engaging, student-centred teaching methodologies rather than relying solely on traditional textbook-based instruction.
• Incorporate stories, plays, shlokas, projects, debates, recitations, presentations and activity-based learning to make Sanskrit accessible and relevant.
• Encourage students to understand the cultural, philosophical and historical significance of Sanskrit literature.

2. Academic Planning & Assessment

• Prepare annual, term-wise and lesson-wise teaching plans.
• Set and evaluate assignments, class tests, examinations and projects.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and academic progress.
• Provide constructive feedback and implement remedial or enrichment programmes where required.
• Prepare students effectively for CBSE board examinations.
• Analyse assessment data and develop interventions for students requiring additional academic support.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning and academic reviews.

3. Student Engagement & Enrichment

• Develop students' interest in Sanskrit beyond the classroom.
• Organise Sanskrit-related activities such as:
• Shloka recitation
• Sanskrit debates
• Elocution
• Storytelling
• Sanskrit plays and dramas
• Quiz competitions
• Language clubs
• Sanskrit Day celebrations
• Inter-school competitions
• Encourage students to explore Sanskrit texts, Indian literature, philosophy, mythology and classical knowledge systems.
• Mentor students for academic competitions and Olympiads where applicable.

4. Residential School Responsibilities

As part of a boarding school, the teacher is expected to contribute to the holistic development and pastoral care of students.

Responsibilities may include:

• Participating in the school's residential/house system.
• Supporting House activities and student mentoring.
• Supervising students during designated evening, weekend or co-curricular activities.
• Building positive relationships with boarders and acting as a trusted adult/mentor.
• Supporting students with academic organisation, discipline and personal development.
• Participating in school events, trips, excursions and residential programmes as required.
• Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and safeguarding standards at all times.

5. Student Development & Pastoral Care

• Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Candidate Profile

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sanskrit from a recognised university.
• B.Ed. or equivalent teacher-training qualification from a recognised institution.
• Candidates teaching senior secondary classes should preferably possess a Master's degree in Sanskrit along with B.Ed.; CBSE's published qualification framework specifies a relevant Master's degree with B.Ed. for Classes XIXII.
• CTET/TET qualification will be an advantage, where applicable.

Experience

• 5 to 10 years of teaching experience in a reputed CBSE/ICSE/international/residential school.
• Experience teaching Sanskrit at the Secondary/Senior Secondary level will be preferred.
• Candidates with experience in a boarding/residential school environment will have an advantage.
• Proven experience in preparing students for CBSE examinations is desirable.
