Job summary

Reliance Industries Limited in India is seeking an Engineer Safety (Sr. Engineer Safety) to execute safety policies at the site, identify and mitigate key risks, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.

Reporting to the Lead Safety, the role supports the Asset Operations value stream, drives safety audits, incident investigations, training, and data-driven safety improvements across the plant.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of experience in process industry site operations/maintenance with 2-3 years handling HSE.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation or Chemistry.
• Strong understanding of safety policies, audits and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety policies and SOPs; assist in policy interpretation and implementation.
• Participate in audits and external safety initiatives; stay updated on best practices.
• Conduct safety observations, maintain logbooks and documentation for compliance.
• Investigate safety incidents, perform root cause analysis and define corrective actions.
• Create safety MIS reports and drive risk mitigation and training programs.

SECTION II: PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To execute all safety related policies at the Site, with the objective to identify, resolve/ mitigate or elevate key risks as per overall safety policies, regulations & standards

SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE

Responsibilities

Polices, Processes and Procedures

• Follow established safety policies, processes, standard operating procedures and provide support in the interpretation and implementation of safety related policies to the line management
• Assist in the implementation of new initiatives/ projects as per the established policies to meet the future requirements of the site
• Participate in the first and third-party health and safety audit systems for their designated area/ plant, in collaboration with Lead Safety
• Participate in external industry bodies, trade association, global forums and keep self abreast with leading practices and trends in order to contribute towards continuous improvement of systems, processes and procedures

Operations

• Conduct and analyse safety observations at their designated area/ plant and suggest actions to modify behaviours
• Maintain log book, occurrence book and other shift related documentation to ensure adherence to safety compliances
• Carryout investigation of all safety related incidents at their designated area/ plant, conduct root cause analysis and identify action plans to avert such future incidents
• Participate in risk management programs such as control measures identification, incident investigation, etc. to manage key risks at their designated area/ plant
• Create MIS reports, safety updates, findings, and performance indices to the area/ plant management so as to ensure awareness towards health and safety
• Track the leading and lagging safety metrics for their designated area/ plant and drive suggested improvement initiatives
• Prepare training modules/ programs and organize safety awareness training to safety executive/ their designated site employees to enhance awareness/ capability pertaining to safety
• Conduct/ Review Nearmiss Analysis and propose actions to Line Management on focus area/improvement actions
• Steer and co-ordinate for effective Plant level safety committee meetings
