The Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a Safety Manager to lead the Safety & Wellness Program in Salem. You will be the agency's primary expert on health, safety, and loss prevention with statewide influence.

Responsibilities include guiding safety initiatives, coordinating committees, and partnering with risk and leaders to improve injury reviews and training. A strong focus on compliance and effective communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field and 2 years of Workers' Compensation loss prevention or occupational health and safety experience.
  • Alternatively 5 years of Occupational Health and Safety consultation experience in relevant settings.

  • Lead and strengthen agency-wide safety and wellness programs through consultation, data analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, ergonomic evaluations, and incident investigations.
  • Provide expert guidance on safety regulations, policies, and Workers’ Compensation matters.

  • Represent DAS in statewide wellness efforts and manage the DAS Wellness Plan.

What You Will Do

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; and two years of experience in Workers' Compensation insurance loss prevention or as an occupational health and safety representative in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting OR Five years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety consultation work in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting or in Workers' Compensation insurance loss prevention.

  • Experience motivating, coaching, or training employees to meet safety and risk management goals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear correspondence and reports

  • Experience representing an organization in a professional manner with employees, customers, the public, or other jurisdictions

Additional Details

This recruitment is for 1 permanent, full-time, Safety Specialist 2 (management, non-supervisory) position, and may be used to fill future vacancies.

Employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.

*The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
