Job summary

Merlin Group in Pune is seeking an experienced Safety Manager for Real Estate & Construction projects within the Health, Safety & Environment department. You will develop and enforce HSE policies, conduct risk assessments and drive safety compliance across multiple sites.

The role requires strong leadership, incident investigation skills and the ability to coordinate with project management, engineering and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Diploma in Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Environmental Safety.
• 815 years of relevant experience
• Experience on high-rise residential/commercial projects
• Strong knowledge of safety practices and statutory compliance

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor HSE policies and safety plans.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and labour laws.
• Conduct site safety inspections, audits and risk assessments.
• Identify hazards and implement preventive actions.
• Monitor safety practices for excavation, scaffolding, work at height, lifting, electrical and hot work.
• Maintain PTW systems.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety trainings and emergency drills.
• Investigate accidents and incidents; prepare reports and corrective actions.
• Maintain HSE documentation and compliance registers.
• Coordinate with PM, Engineering, MEP and Contractors to resolve safety issues.
• Establish Emergency Preparedness & Response Plans including fire evacuation.
• Ensure PPE and firefighting equipment readiness.
• Track safety KPIs such as LTIFR, TRIR and training hours.
• Lead site safety team and manage safety manpower.
• Prepare periodic HSE dashboards for senior management.

Job Title: Safety Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor comprehensive HSE policies, procedures and safety plans for real estate/construction projects.
• Ensure compliance with applicable statutory safety regulations, labour laws, environmental requirements and construction safety standards.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits and risk assessments and ensure timely closure of observations.
• Identify hazards and implement appropriate preventive and corrective actions.
• Monitor safety practices related to excavation, scaffolding, work at height, lifting operations, electrical work, hot work, confined spaces and heavy equipment.
• Ensure proper implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems.
• Conduct Toolbox Talks, safety training, induction programs, emergency drills and awareness programs for employees, contractors and workers.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions; prepare reports and recommend corrective/preventive measures.
• Maintain and review HSE documentation, inspection reports, incident records, training records and compliance registers.
• Monitor contractors and subcontractors for compliance with approved safety procedures and standards.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, MEP, Construction and Contractor teams to resolve safety issues.
• Establish and monitor Emergency Preparedness & Response Plans, including fire and evacuation procedures.
• Ensure availability and proper maintenance of PPE, firefighting equipment, first-aid facilities and other safety systems.
• Track safety KPIs such as LTIFR, TRIR, near misses, unsafe acts/conditions, training hours and audit compliance.
• Conduct periodic mock drills, emergency response exercises and safety campaigns.
• Support management in achieving zero-accident / zero-fatality objectives across projects.
• Lead and mentor the site safety team and ensure adequate safety manpower across project locations.
• Prepare periodic HSE dashboards and reports for senior management.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's/Diploma in Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Environmental Safety or a related discipline.
• 815 years of relevant experience, preferably with reputed real estate, construction, infrastructure or EPC companies.
• Strong experience in high-rise residential/commercial projects or large-scale construction projects.
• Sound knowledge of construction safety practices, risk assessment, incident investigation and statutory compliance.
• Experience in managing contractors, subcontractors and large workforces.
• Strong communication, leadership, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and drive safety compliance across multiple project stakeholders.

Preferred Certifications

• ADIS / DIS / Diploma in Industrial Safety or equivalent qualification preferred.
• First Aid / Fire Safety / Emergency Response certifications will be an advantage.
