Job summary

Aurm in Bengaluru (Bangalore) is seeking a Robotics Support Specialist to provide office-based support for AGV/AMR fleets at customer sites, diagnosing across mechanical, electrical, PLC and software layers and coordinating with operations to ensure uptime.

You will engage in remote troubleshooting, sensor calibration, firmware updates, and fleet orchestration, with travel kept to a minimum. Strong communication and problem-solving are essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are looking for a Robotics Support Specialist to provide primarily office-based (with occasional on-site travel when absolutely necessary) support for our AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) and AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) fleets deployed at customer sites. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving issues across mechanical, electrical, PLC, and software layers — coordinating closely with customer operations teams — to ensure high uptime and reliable operation of deployed systems post go-live.

This is a hands-on, coordination-heavy role suited to someone who is comfortable working across mechanical systems, embedded systems, networking, robot software stacks, and PLC-based automation, and who enjoys solving problems remotely in real-world, dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide primarily remote/office-based technical support for AGV/AMR fleets and fleet management systems deployed at customer facilities, travelling to site only when absolutely necessary.
• Diagnose and resolve issues across the full stack — mechanical, electrical, embedded software, networking, PLC, and application layer.
• Monitor robot and fleet health, investigate diagnostic logs, and proactively identify recurring issues.
• Troubleshoot and maintain PLC-based systems, including logic review and modification using Sysmac (Omron) or equivalent platforms.
• Coordinate closely with customer operations teams to understand reported issues, guide them through remote troubleshooting steps, and drive issues to resolution.
• Perform sensor calibration, firmware updates, and mechanical adjustments/repairs remotely where possible, or during on-site visits when required.
• Configure and validate fleet orchestration, task assignment, and MQTT-based communication between robots and site systems.
• Manage escalations: triage field issues, coordinate with engineering for root-cause analysis, and drive fixes to closure.
• Maintain support documentation — issue logs, resolution steps, spare parts usage, and site-specific configurations.
• Train and support customer operations/maintenance staff on troubleshooting and routine upkeep.
• Travel to customer sites as required (domestic/international, depending on business needs).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–3 years of experience in field support, deployment, systems integration, or robotics/automation engineering.
• Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting, with hands-on experience in Sysmac (Omron) or equivalent platforms.
• Basic understanding of mechanical assembly and troubleshooting (fasteners, alignment, basic mechanisms).
• Working knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu preferred), command-line tooling, and basic scripting (Python/Bash).
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP configuration, VLANs, SSH tunnels, firewalls) in an industrial or site environment.
• Exposure to robot communication protocols (MQTT, ROS/ROS2, or similar).
• Comfortable reading logs, diagnosing hardware/software issues, and working through ambiguous field problems independently.
• Strong communication skills — able to work directly with customer technical and operations staff, often under time pressure during live issues, primarily via remote channels (calls, remote access tools, chat).
• This is primarily a work-from-office role; travel to customer sites is only required in cases of absolute necessity (e.g., issues that cannot be resolved remotely).

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with additional PLC platforms and programming environments beyond Sysmac (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi GX Works).
• Experience supporting AGV/AMR or industrial automation systems in a live production environment.
• Familiarity with SLAM/navigation concepts, LiDAR sensor calibration, or robot localization.
• Experience with electrical panel wiring, sensors, and actuators in an industrial setting.
• Exposure to Docker/containerized deployments.
• Prior experience in a customer-facing technical support role.
