Job summary

MARS Cosmetics in New Delhi, India, is seeking a Research Scientist – Makeup Formulation to develop high-performance colour cosmetics from concept to commercialization. You will lead formulation development across foundations, concealers, lip products, and eye makeup, ensuring payoff, texture, wear and stability.

The ideal candidate has 2–6 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation, strong emulsions and pigment dispersion knowledge, and can troubleshoot independently in a lab

Qualifications

• M.Sc./M.Pharm, B.Tech, M.Tech or PhD in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 2–6 years hands-on formulation experience, preferably in colour cosmetics or makeup.
• Strong understanding of emulsions, pigment dispersion, rheology and cosmetic raw materials.
• Comfortable working hands-on in the laboratory and independently troubleshooting formulations.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and optimise foundations, concealers, primers, lip products, eye makeup, blushes and other colour cosmetics.
• Develop products across textures and formats including liquids, emulsions, anhydrous systems, sticks, gels and powders.
• Benchmark and reverse engineer leading Indian and global products.
• Optimise formulations for payoff, spreadability, wear, sensory profile, stability and cost.
• Design and execute laboratory trials, stability studies and formulation troubleshooting.
• Evaluate pigments, dispersions, film formers, silicones, rheology modifiers and other functional ingredients.
• Work closely with Packaging, Procurement, Manufacturing and Marketing teams to take formulations from lab to pilot to commercial scale.

Key Responsibilities-

• Formulate and optimise foundations, concealers, primers, lip products, eye makeup, blushes and other colour cosmetics.
• Develop products across different textures and formats including liquids, emulsions, anhydrous systems, sticks, gels and powders.
• Conduct benchmarking and reverse engineering of leading Indian and global products.
• Optimise formulations for payoff, spreadability, coverage, wear, sensory profile, stability and cost.
• Design and execute laboratory trials, stability studies and formulation troubleshooting.
• Evaluate pigments, dispersions, film formers, silicones, rheology modifiers and other functional ingredients.
• Work closely with Packaging, Procurement, Manufacturing and Marketing teams to take formulations from lab to pilot to commercial scale.
• Identify new ingredients, technologies and formulation approaches from global suppliers and emerging beauty markets.
• Maintain accurate formulation records, specifications and technical documentation.

Ideal Candidate-

• M.Sc., M.Pharm, B.Tech, M.Tech or PhD in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• 2–6 years of hands on formulation experience, preferably in colour cosmetics or makeup.
• Strong understanding of emulsions, pigment dispersion, rheology and cosmetic raw materials.
• Comfortable working hands on in the laboratory and independently troubleshooting formulations.
• Strong experimental mindset with an obsession for product performance, consumer experience and continuous improvement.
