Overview

The R&D Executive – Cosmetics is responsible for formulating, developing, and improving cosmetic products, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and market trends. This role involves extensive research, product innovation, stability testing, and collaboration with various departments to bring high-quality cosmetic formulations to market.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize innovative formulations for skincare, hair care, personal care, and cosmetic products based on market and client requirements.
• Identify and evaluate new active ingredients, raw materials, and technologies to enhance product efficacy and innovation.
• Conduct stability studies to assess product performance, consistency, and shelf‑life under various conditions.
• Ensure all formulations comply with GMP, BIS, FDA, ISO 9001:2015, and other applicable cosmetic regulations.
• Prepare and test prototypes, ensuring they meet required aesthetic, functional, and sensory characteristics.
• Create new samples for each client or party as per their requirements, ensuring customization and quality consistency.
• Analyze competitor products and industry trends to improve existing formulations and create market‑driven innovations.
• Maintain detailed records of formulation trials, test results, and regulatory documentation.
• Evaluate raw materials for performance and safety and ensure compatibility with packaging materials.
• Work closely with the production team to ensure smooth scale‑up and commercial manufacturing of approved formulations.
• Proactively coordinate with production chemists to ensure seamless continuation of production processes, especially during planned absences or handovers.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Quality Assurance, Production, Purchase, and Marketing to ensure timely and efficient product development and launch.
• Update and explain new formulations to the Marketing team as and when required, ensuring they are well‑informed for client communication and positioning.
• Ensure clear documentation and handover of formulation and processing steps to relevant departments.
• Take end‑to‑end responsibility for timely development and delivery of samples, ensuring coordination between R&D, production, and dispatch for every party/client requirement.
• Maintain professional and timely communication with vendors for raw materials and samples, ensuring efficient sourcing and relationship management.
• Actively participate in daily/weekly batch planning, production meetings, and internal review discussions.

Qualifications

• Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in cosmetic product formulation and R&D.
• Strong knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, emulsions, surfactants, actives, and preservatives.
• Familiarity with GMP, BIS, FDA regulations, ISO standards, and safety guidelines.
• Experience with stability testing, analytical testing, and product evaluation techniques.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and formulation software.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
