Job summary

Persistent is hiring an R&D Engineer to design, develop, and maintain 4G/5G control-plane protocol parsers and state machines. You will implement and extend support for S1AP, NGAP, GTP-C, PFCP, and other signaling interfaces across EPC and Core networks.

You will work on SBA network functions, participate in architecture reviews, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while leveraging Docker-based packaging and Kubernetes deployments.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of telecom software development or protocol stack experience.
• Strong hands-on C++ systems programming.
• Experience with Linux development environments.
• Knowledge of 3GPP 4G/5G architectures.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with signaling protocols and protocol parsing.

About Position:

What You\'ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain 4G control-plane protocol parsers and state machines.
• Implement and enhance support for protocols such as S1AP (eNB-MME Interface), GTP-C v1/v2, PFCP, SGsAP.
• Design, develop, and maintain 5G control-plane protocol parsers and state machines.
• Implement and support NGAP communication between NG-RAN and AMF.
• Develop protocol processing capabilities for 5G Service-Based Architecture (SBA) network functions including AMF, SMF, UDM, PCF, AUSF, NRF, NEF, CHF, NWDAF, SEPP, UDR, UDSF, BSF, NSSF, LMF, EIR, AF.
• Parse and correlate multi-message telecom procedures across 4G and 5G protocols.
• Implement cross-protocol session correlation linking signaling, session management, charging, and network events.
• Maintain protocol decoders in alignment with evolving 3GPP specifications and releases.
• Develop and execute unit tests and integration tests using PCAP-based traffic replay frameworks.
• Collaborate with packet ingestion teams for messaging interfaces and metadata contracts.
• Contribute to Docker-based packaging and Helm deployments for Kubernetes environments.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, protocol specifications, and implementation guidelines.
• Analyze protocol traces and troubleshoot complex signaling issues.
• Support performance optimization and scalability improvements for telecom analytics platforms.

Expertise You\'ll Bring:

• 3-5 years of experience in telecom software development or protocol stack development.
• Strong hands-on experience in C++ systems programming.
• Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Design and software engineering principles.
• Strong knowledge of 3GPP standards across both 4G EPC and 5G Core networks.
• Experience developing telecom protocol parsers, decoders, or signaling applications.
• Strong understanding of LTE and 5G network architecture.
• Knowledge of EPC components including MME, SGW, PGW, HSS, PCRF.
• Knowledge of 5G Core components including AMF, SMF, UDM, PCF, NRF, AUSF, NSSF.
• Experience working with signaling protocols such as S1AP, NGAP, GTP-C, PFCP, NAS, and related interfaces.
• Understanding of Service-Based Architecture (SBA) and REST-based communication among 5G network functions.
• Experience with protocol analysis, packet decoding, and message correlation.
• Knowledge of telecom call flows, session management, mobility management, and charging workflows.
• Experience working on Linux development environments.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of Docker and containerized deployments.
• Understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native application deployment concepts.
• Experience using Git and version control systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
