Job summary

Persistent Systems is seeking an experienced RF Planning & Optimization Engineer to design, analyze, and optimize 4G LTE and 5G NR networks. You will perform RF planning, propagation modeling, and link-budget calculations, using ATOLL, Planet, and iBwave tools to deliver coverage improvements and capacity enhancements.

The role requires deep knowledge of wireless technologies, Massive MIMO, and SON concepts, with a focus on validating solutions and driving performance across product development,

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of RF planning and optimization experience.
• Hands-on use of ATOLL, Planet, or iBwave for planning.
• Strong knowledge of 4G LTE and 5G NR networks and Massive MIMO.
• Ability to analyze coverage, capacity, interference, and KPI targets.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced RF Planning & Optimization Engineer to support the design, analysis, and optimization of 4G LTE and 5G NR networks. The role involves RF planning activities such as coverage and capacity analysis, propagation modeling, link-budget calculations, frequency planning, and interference troubleshooting using industry-standard tools like ATOLL, Planet, and iBwave. The ideal candidate will work closely with product development, QA, and customer teams to analyze network scenarios, validate solutions, and drive performance improvements. Strong knowledge of wireless technologies, Massive MIMO, SON concepts, and radio network optimization is essential for success in this role.

What You'll Do:

• Perform RF planning, design, and optimization activities for 4G LTE and 5G NR networks to achieve targeted coverage, capacity, and quality objectives.
• Analyze and troubleshoot RF network performance issues, including coverage gaps, interference, mobility, and capacity constraints.
• Conduct link budget analysis, RF propagation modeling, coverage prediction, and capacity planning using industry-standard planning tools.
• Develop and optimize PCI plans, frequency plans, carrier allocation, and neighbor relations to improve network performance and user experience.
• Support coverage and capacity scenario planning, traffic analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations for network expansion and optimization projects.
• Investigate customer-reported issues, reproduce network scenarios, and validate software fixes within RF planning and optimization environments.
• Perform interference analysis and troubleshooting for LTE and 5G networks, ensuring optimal spectrum utilization.
• Execute handover parameter optimization, ANR validation, and mobility optimization activities to enhance network reliability and accessibility.
• Collaborate with Product Development, QA, Customer Support, and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues and improve planning workflows.
• Analyze and maintain site databases, frequency planning data, geographic information, and terrain datasets to ensure planning accuracy.
• Support SON-based optimization initiatives, including Mobility Robustness Optimization (MRO), Mobility Load Balancing (MLB), and Radio Link Failure (RLF) optimization.
• Work with RF planning tools such as ATOLL, Planet, iBwave, or equivalent solutions to validate network designs and generate performance recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports, network performance analyses, and optimization recommendations for internal and customer stakeholders.
• Stay updated on emerging wireless technologies, including 5G NR, Massive MIMO, Beamforming, and cloud-based telecom planning solutions

Expertise You'll Bring:

• Strong experience in RF Planning & Optimization for 4G LTE and 5G NR networks, with a solid understanding of radio network design principles and optimization techniques.
• Hands-on expertise in RF propagation modeling, coverage prediction, link-budget analysis, and capacity planning.
• Knowledge of PCI planning, frequency planning, interference analysis, carrier planning, and mobility optimization for LTE and 5G networks.
• Understanding of Massive MIMO, Beamforming, coverage versus capacity optimization, and 5G NR planning parameters and KPIs.
• Experience with Automatic Frequency Planning (AFP), Neighbor Cell Planning, ANR, Handover Optimization, and SON-based optimization workflows (MRO, MLB, RLF).
• Proficiency in RF planning and optimization tools such as ATOLL, Planet, iBwave, or equivalent wireless network planning solutions.
• Ability to analyze customer-reported issues, reproduce network scenarios, validate software fixes, and provide effective technical resolutions.
• Experience managing site databases, frequency planning data, geographic information, and terrain datasets for accurate network planning.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret network performance metrics and KPIs.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across product, QA, customer support, and global engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Exposure to 2G/3G planning concepts, telecom performance analytics, cloud-based telecom planning platforms, and network automation frameworks is a plus.
