Job summary

ASSPL in Maharashtra is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to oversee refrigeration systems and base building equipment. The role covers planned and preventive maintenance, temperature control, and diagnostics across chilling facilities, with collaboration across OEMs and service providers.

You will monitor DG and UPS systems, ensure safety compliance, and produce routine technical reports and dashboards using MS Excel.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
  • Minimum three to five years of hands-on experience in refrigeration systems and base building equipment maintenance.
  • Proficiency in refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, DG operations, UPS systems, and BMS platforms.
  • Preferred certifications in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electrical Safety, or equivalent recognised standards.
  • Analytical skills to perform RCA, develop CAPA plans, and data-driven decisions.
  • Reporting: ability to prepare technical reports, dashboards, and MIS outputs using MS Excel and related tools.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules for all refrigeration systems and cold rooms.
  • Monitor temperature across cold chain zones per SOPs.
  • Inspect compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, and piping.
  • Ensure refrigerant levels and perform leak tests.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for repairs and AMC.
  • Diagnose faults in refrigeration systems and resolve compressor failures or leaks.
  • Respond to temperature excursions and take corrective actions within SLAs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control faults in panels, PLCs, and BMS interfaces.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring failures and implement permanent fixes.
  • Maintain DG sets with fuel, coolant, battery health, and load bank tests.
  • Carry out maintenance on UPS systems including battery checks and firmware updates.
  • Monitor electrical panels (MDB, SDB, ATS) and insulation in electrical systems.
  • Conduct insulation resistance testing, earth resistance testing, and thermography.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and statutory requirements.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly equipment reports and track MTBF/MTTR and energy trends.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules for all refrigeration systems, including tropical rooms, chilled rooms, and frozen rooms.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal temperature parameters across all cold chain zones in strict accordance with defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct routine inspections of compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, and refrigerant piping systems.
  • Ensure refrigerant levels are maintained within specified limits and perform periodic leak detection tests.
  • Monitor and maintain defrost cycles, drain lines, and insulation integrity of all cold rooms.
  • Coordinate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and third-party service providers for specialized repairs and annual maintenance contracts.
  • Diagnose and resolve refrigeration system faults, including compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, thermostat malfunctions, and evaporator icing.
  • Respond to temperature excursion alarms and execute corrective actions within defined response timelines.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system faults in refrigeration panels, PLCs, and Building Management System (BMS) interfaces.
  • Perform root cause identification for recurring equipment failures and implements verified permanent fixes.
  • Maintain and monitor Diesel Generator (DG) sets, including fuel systems, coolant levels, battery health, and periodic load bank testing.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance on Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, including battery health checks, load testing, and firmware updates.
  • Monitor and maintain electrical panels — including Main Distribution Boards (MDB), Sub-Distribution Boards (SDB), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and change-over panels.
  • Conduct periodic insulation resistance (IR) testing, earth resistance testing, and thermography surveys of all electrical systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable electrical safety standards and statutory requirements.
  • Monitor real-time equipment parameters through the BMS, temperature monitoring systems, and energy meters.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify abnormalities, unusual sounds, vibrations, or visual defects in equipment.
  • Track and maintain equipment runtime hours, energy consumption data, and performance trends.
  • Ensure all monitoring sensors and alarm systems are calibrated and fully functional at all times.
  • Daily Reports — Prepare and submit daily equipment status reports covering temperature logs, DG runtime, UPS status, and all observed anomalies.
  • Weekly Reports — Compile weekly maintenance summary reports covering PPM compliance, breakdown analysis, spare parts consumption, and pending work orders.
  • Monthly Reports — Develop monthly performance reports inclusive of equipment uptime percentage, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), energy consumption trends, and cost analysis.
  • Conduct structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all equipment breakdowns, temperature excursions, and safety incidents using methodologies such as Five-Why Analysis and Fishbone Diagrams.
  • Develop and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with clearly defined timelines, responsible owners, and effectiveness verification criteria.
  • Maintain a CAPA tracker with closure status, evidence of implementation, and effectiveness validation records.
  • Present RCA and CAPA findings during Weekly Business Reviews (WBR) and Monthly Business Reviews (MBR).

  • Regular work in proximity to live electrical systems — adherence to all safety protocols is mandatory.
  • On-call availability required for emergency breakdowns and critical temperature excursion response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation and Controls
  • Experience in handling Cooling systems/Chiller/Cold storage for minimum 2years
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1+ years of conveyors/automation/control systems maintenance experience
  • Experience in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation and Controls
