Job summary

AprilVets Mumford Road is actively seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our small animal team. You will assist veterinarians during exams, surgeries and diagnostic procedures while guiding clients on care plans and preventive measures.

Qualifications

• RV T/ CVT/ LVTP license required; prior veterinary experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, procedures and protocols.
• Proficient in handling medical equipment, assisting in surgeries, anesthesia, dental procedures and radiographs.

Responsibilities

• Directly assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries and other procedures.
• Take thorough patient histories to initiate doctor appointments.
• Administer vaccinations, medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
• Perform lab tests and diagnostic procedures including blood work, urinalysis and radiographs.
• Monitor vital signs and patient comfort; maintain medical records in cloud-based system.
• Assist in intakes and discharges of surgical patients; educate pet owners.
• Sterilize equipment and maintain clinic cleanliness; assist in handling animals safely.
• Monitor patients under sedation and post-operative recovery.

Qualifications

• Registered Veterinary Technician: RVT, CVT, or LVTPrior experience is required
• Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
• Proficient in handling medical equipment, assisting in surgical procedures, anesthesia, dental procedures- acquiring diagnostic radiographs, administering medications, and treatments
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities and Technical Applications

• Directly assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other procedures
• Initiate appointments for the doctor on duty by taking a relevant and thorough patient history
• Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments as directed by veterinarians
• Perform laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, including blood work, urinalysis, and radiographs, surgical and dental general anesthesia
• Comfortable performing in-hospital lab work: cytology examination (ear and skin swabs, blood smears, etc.), running bloodwork and urinalysis (IDEXX ProCyte, Catalyst One, and SediVue)
• Monitor and record vital signs of animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being
• Maintain accurate and organized medical records in our cloud-based practice management system
• Comfortable with doing intakes and discharges of surgical patients
• Educate and guide pet owners regarding animal care, treatment plans, and preventive measures
• Prepare and sterilize surgical equipment and maintain cleanliness in the veterinary clinic
• Assist in handling animals safely and compassionately
• Monitoring patients under sedation and anesthesia, providing post-operative care, and monitoring the recovery of surgical patients
