The Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Waste Management and WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene),
ANVESHAN – was inaugurated on July 11, 2023, by IIM Indore’s Director, Prof. Himanshu Rai. Established with support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the Centre is dedicated to transforming waste management and sanitation practices across India. ANVESHAN is a dynamic platform for training, research, innovation and collaboration in urban sanitation. Operating from a state-of-the-art facility at IIM Indore, the team at ANVESHAN is dedicated to transforming waste management and sanitation practices across India. The centre designs and implements training and development programmes for senior officials working at national and state levels, in urban local bodies and at the political level to manage sanitation and waste management initiatives across urban India. Our vision is to become a national hub for administrative leadership and capacity building under SBM 2.0. In addition, Anveshan promotes collaboration and innovation to achieve ANVESHAN’s vision under Swachch Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0, which aims to create Garbage free cities.

About the Role:

The Academic Associate position is an integral support role that aids in ANVESHAN’s mission by contributing to its team activities, advancing research, aiding faculty, and coordinating projects on Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Waste management.

Key responsibilities:

• Carry out literature reviews, aid in research design (surveys, data collection etc.), analyse data (quantitative and qualitative), and assist in high-impact research reports and policy briefs on WASH issues within SBM-U 2.0.
• Support the CoE team in various program-related academic activities
• Support the conduct of Management development programme for senior ULB Officers.
• Facilitate discussion with faculty and Anveshan team to develop appropriate content to support the development of course material for academic programmes and training modules related to WASH, waste management and related topics.
• Support in developing concept notes and proposals for fund-raising
• Prepare high quality reports for internal and external stakeholders including Ministry and other clients
• Support the head of the centre in project implementation and adhering to timelines by fostering effective stakeholder interaction, and assist in ensuring successful implementation of ANVESHAN’s programs.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in any of the following subject areas Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies with a focus on WASH.
• 2+ years of experience in research experience in the development sector, with proven experience in data analysis, report writing, and coordination of projects.
• High-quality written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical & Critical Thinking: Capacity to break down intricate WASH issues and offer incisive, evidence-based recommendations.
• Attention to Detail: Adherence to precision in research, data, and reporting.
• Communication & Collaboration: Communicate research insights and collaborate well in interdisciplinary environments.
• Project Management: The ability to organize tasks, set priorities, and achieve project timelines.
