Job summary

Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) invites applications for a Programme Associate / Research Analyst in the Sustainable Water Programme in New Delhi. The role focuses on climate risk assessment for water resources and WASH, with emphasis on policy, governance, hydrology, and data-driven analysis.

You will support methodology development, dataset processing, and reporting, while engaging with government and non-government stakeholders across Indian states.

Qualifications

• Master (of technology or arts) degree in water resources with a holistic understanding of water resources planning and management.
• A minimum of 3-4 years' experience working on climate risk and resilience incorporating social, hydrological and economic lenses and policies needed for WASH and overall water security.
• Excellent awareness of the governance and policy landscape of the climate and water sector, so as to support interdisciplinary research.
• Excellent in data source identification, mining, and organisation.
• Excellent research skills to support quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Good writing skills to support reports and other content writing.
• Ability to use the MS Office application suite.
• Effective presentation skills are essential for delivering clear, concise, and adaptable verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, encompassing both primary and secondary sources.
• Assist in the development of the research methodology.
• Identify, download, and support in processing the right datasets for risk assessment.
• Support in the preparation of research reports and presentations.
• Support in publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals and generating other knowledge products for different audiences, such as blogs, policy briefs, op-eds, etc., at regular intervals.
• Manage relationships with project counterparts from CEEW’s partners.
• Assist senior researchers in the team in conceptualising new projects and developing high-impact research proposals.
• Contribute to the development of cross-team research proposals and undertake such research studies.
• Assist with project and programme implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication materials.
• Assist with effective outreach of research outputs through coordination with the outreach team and engagement with a broader network of stakeholders and concerned policymakers.
• Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of developments relevant to WASH, hydrology, climate impacts and risks, and other relevant themes.
• As required, assist senior team members in important meetings and sessions by preparing notes and conducting follow-ups.
• Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes and chairing the weekly meetings.
• Any other assistance that may be required.

Purpose

The CEEW’s Sustainable Water Programme informs policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources and their effective management through research in areas of mainstreaming climate resilience in water security planning; circular economy in used water management and water bodies rejuvenation; sustainable development through policy coherence in food, land, and water systems; and water accounting-based planning.

For its Sustainable Water programme, CEEW seeks to hire a programme associate (PA)/ research analyst (RA) with a strong understanding of climate risk assessment in the water sector in general, and the drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) system in particular. The candidate should also possess a sound understanding of the policy, governance, hydrology, social, and economic landscape for sustainable water management; have a good grasp of the secondary datasets required for risk assessments and water security planning; possess strong skills in data analysis and research writing; and support the organisation in expanding its network with government and non-government stakeholders in Indian states.

Job duties and accountabilities
