Job summary

Candor Management Services in Coimbatore seeks a hands-on laboratory R&D professional with strong background in polymer chemistry, silicone elastomers, and related formulated-materials. You will personally conduct experiments, develop and optimize formulations, and support transition from R&D to manufacturing.

Six to fifteen years of experience is expected, with advanced degrees in polymer science or chemical engineering.

Ideal Candidate's background:

Polymer chemistry, rubber technology, silicone/elastomer formulation, polyurethane, specialty chemicals, adhesives, sealants, coatings, molded elastomers, medical-grade polymers or related formulated-material industries.

Strong candidate from the silicone, rubber, elastomer, polyurethane, specialty chemical, adhesives/sealants or polymer-compounding industry may be more relevant to us than a conventional medical-device mechanical engineer.

6 - 15 years of experience

Education: M.Sc., M.Tech., B.Tech./B.E. or PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Rubber, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline

Good technical English communication is also important because the person will need to document work clearly and interact with our international team.

Looking for a hands-on laboratory R&D person who have personally worked on formulation development and optimization involving areas such as:

• Silicone elastomers, LSR/RTV silicones, rubber, polyurethane or other flexible polymers
• Base polymers, catalysts, curing agents, cross-linkers, fillers, pigments and functional additives
• Modification of hardness, elasticity, flexibility, transparency, viscosity, surface properties and mechanical behaviour
• Mixing, compounding, vacuum degassing, casting, molding and curing processes
• Troubleshooting formulation and manufacturing problems
• Material characterization and comparative testing
• Development of repeatable formulations and process parameters
• Laboratory pilot production scale-up
• Technology transfer from R&D into manufacturing
• Preparation of formulations, SOPs, process specifications, BOM/raw-material specifications and production instructions
• Vendor/raw-material evaluation and qualification
• Root-cause analysis when production batches do not reproduce laboratory results
• Experience with equipment such as vacuum/planetary mixers, high-shear mixers, ovens, molding equipment, vacuum chambers, viscometers/rheometers, Shore hardness testers, tensile testing equipment and similar material-development tools would be highly relevant.
• Experience in medical devices, medical-grade silicones, catheter/tubing manufacturing, prosthetics, anatomical models, medical consumables or life-science products would be especially attractive, but we should not restrict the search only to medical-device companies.

For screening purposes, an ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate at least one or two examples where they personally took a formulation/material from:

Customer/Product Requirement Laboratory Formulation Experimental Optimization Material Testing Pilot Batch Process Optimization Production Transfer Repeatable Manufacturing.

Not looking for predominantly mechanical CAD engineers, IT/engineering-service profiles, pure pharmaceutical analytical-development scientists, API synthesis/process-chemistry candidates or candidates whose R&D exposure is mainly documentation/project management unless they also have significant hands-on formulation/material-development experience.

Role & responsibilities

Need to supervise a small R&D team but still willing to personally conduct experiments, prepare formulations, troubleshoot processes and work directly inside the laboratory.
