Job summary

Shak Manufacturing Private Limited in Pithampur, Dhar is seeking a meticulous Vendor Quality Development Engineer / Assistant Manager to evaluate, qualify, audit and develop outsourced fabrication vendors and raw material suppliers in the PEB/structural steel sector.

You will establish quality standards, conduct shop-floor audits, implement QA plans and CAPAs, and drive supplier performance improvements to meet in-house quality.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in mechanical/civil or related field.
• 4–6 years in QA/QC, vendor inspection, or supplier quality development in PEB/heavy steel sectors.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and onboard fabrication sub-contractors, cold-roll formers, galvanizers, paint applicators, and fastener suppliers.
• Develop QA plans, ITPs, and Weld Procedure Specifications for outsourced work packages.
• Perform material inspections, MTR verification, UT/MPT, and coating inspections at vendor yards.
• Issue NCRs and lead root-cause analysis using 8D/5-Why for CAPA implementation.
• Track monthly Vendor Quality Scorecards and categorize vendors by performance.

Job Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and quality-driven Vendor Quality Development Engineer / Assistant Manager with specialized experience in the Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) or structural steel sector. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, qualifying, auditing, and developing outsourced fabrication vendors, raw material suppliers (steel plates, coils, fasteners, coatings), and secondary processing partners.
You will establish quality standards, enforce compliance with international welding and structural codes, conduct shop-floor audits at vendor facilities, and drive continuous supplier performance improvements to ensure off-site fabricated components match in-house quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Vendor Evaluation & Onboarding:
  • Assess and audit potential fabrication sub-contractors, cold-roll formers, galvanizers, paint applicators, and fastener/accessory suppliers.
  • Conduct technical audits evaluating vendor plant capacity, machinery capabilities (CNC cutting, SAW/MIG welding setups), quality management systems (ISO/AWS), and manpower competency.
• Vendor Quality Management & Supervision:
  • Establish project-specific Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS/PQR) for outsourced work packages.
  • Perform raw material inspection (Mill Test Reports verification, ultrasonic testing for laminations, mechanical/chemical lab test validations).
  • Execute stage-wise and final dimensional, visual, NDT (UT/MPT), and surface treatment (shot blasting profile, paint DFT) inspections at vendor yards prior to dispatch.
• Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions:
  • Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for fabrication, welding, or coating defects identified at vendor yards or upon delivery at assembly plants/construction sites.
  • Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) using 8D or 5-Why methodologies and ensure vendors implement robust Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
• Vendor Capability Building & Process Improvement:
  • Train vendor fabrication and welding teams on PEB manufacturing tolerances, weld quality standards, and critical fit-up requirements for tapered columns, rafters, and secondary members.
  • Implement standardized templates for vendor inspection release notes (IRN), mill certificates, and traceability documentation.
• Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
  • Track and publish monthly Vendor Quality Scorecards evaluating metrics such as First Pass Yield (FPY), rejection rates, NCR turnaround time, and schedule compliance.
  • Categorize vendors (Preferred, Approved, Probationary, Blacklisted) based on quality performance history.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

• Education: Bachelors Degree (B.E. / B.Tech) or Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Civil Engineering.
• Experience: 4-6 years of experience in QA/QC, vendor inspection, or supplier quality development within the PEB, heavy structural steel fabrication, or heavy engineering sectors.
• Technical Knowledge:
  • In-depth command of structural steel fabrication codes and standards (AWS D1.1, AISC, IS 800, IS 2062, MBMA guidelines).
  • Hands-on knowledge of plate welding (SAW, SMAW, GMAW), cold-formed light-gauge steel profiles (C/Z purlins), roll-forming, hot-dip galvanizing, and industrial liquid/powder coatings.
  • Proficiency in reading Tekla 3D models, shop fabrication drawings, and structural bill of materials (BOM).

• Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel frequently (up to 4050%) to vendor fabrication shops and raw material supplier facilities.
