Key Responsibilities
Test Automation & Framework Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for Java backend and React frontend applications — covering UI, API, integration, and E2E testing layers.
- Develop API test automation suites using RestAssured, Karate, or Postman — covering REST API contracts, authentication flows, and business logic validation across Java backend services.
- Write unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito — collaborating with Java developers to improve code testability and unit test coverage across backend microservices.
- Build and maintain BDD test frameworks using Cucumber and Gherkin — working with product owners and BAs to define business-readable acceptance criteria and test scenarios.
- Design and execute performance and load tests using JMeter or Gatling — validating Java backend scalability and response time under realistic load conditions.
Shift-Left & CI/CD Quality Integration
- Embed automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines — Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions — implementing quality gates that prevent defective code from reaching production.
- Champion shift-left testing practices — engaging with Java developers, React engineers, and architects early in the delivery lifecycle to define testability requirements.
- Implement contract testing using Pact or Spring Cloud Contract — validating microservices API contracts and preventing integration failures across service boundaries.
- Configure test reporting and observability — Allure, ExtentReports, or ReportPortal — providing clear, actionable quality metrics for engineering and stakeholder audiences.
- Support shift-right testing — production monitoring, synthetic testing, and canary release validation strategies.
Quality Leadership & Collaboration
- Define and own quality engineering strategy across assigned squads — establishing test approaches, automation roadmaps, and quality metrics.
- Lead test planning, estimation, and risk-based prioritisation — ensuring test coverage is proportionate to business and technical risk.
- Conduct thorough code reviews of test automation code — ensuring framework quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
- Collaborate with Java developers, React engineers, product owners, BAs, and DevOps teams — contributing to Agile sprint delivery from requirements through to production.
- Manage defect triage, root cause analysis, and quality reporting — providing clear quality status updates to delivery teams and stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach junior QE team members — sharing automation expertise across Java and React testing domains.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of quality engineering experience with strong hands-on technical automation expertise across Java backend and React frontend applications.
- Strong Java skills — writing production-quality test automation code, unit tests (JUnit / Mockito), and API tests (RestAssured) in Java.
- Proven Selenium WebDriver or Playwright expertise — building scalable, maintainable UI automation frameworks from scratch.
- Strong API testing expertise — REST API validation using RestAssured, Karate, or Postman across Java microservices.
- Experience with BDD frameworks — Cucumber / Gherkin — for business-readable test scenario development.
- Hands‑on CI/CD integration experience — embedding quality gates and automated test suites into Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions pipelines.
- Strong understanding of shift-left testing practices — engaging early in the delivery lifecycle to define testability and quality requirements.
- Good understanding of microservices architecture — sufficient to design effective integration and contract testing strategies across distributed Java services.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills — working effectively across Java developers, React engineers, product owners, and DevOps teams.
Nice to Have
- Performance and load testing experience — JMeter, Gatling, or k6 — for Java backend scalability validation.
- Contract testing experience — Pact or Spring Cloud Contract — for microservices API contract validation.
- Accessibility testing knowledge — WCAG standards and tools such as Axe.
- AI‑assisted testing tools — Mabl, Testim, or Applitools — for self‑healing and intelligent test automation.
- Security testing awareness — OWASP Top 10 and basic DAST / SAST concepts.
- ISTQB Foundation or Advanced certification.
- Experience in Financial Services, Banking, or regulated industry environments.
