ROLE DESCRIPTION

Function: Engineering

Sub Function: Civil engineering

Role: Quality Control Engineer (Civil Engineering)

Location: Site

Designation: Quantity Control

Reporting to: Project Manager


Purpose of the Role:
  1. The Quality Control Engineer (Civil Construction) is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities are executed in compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, and statutory requirements.
  2. The role focuses on monitoring workmanship, materials, and construction processes to ensure high-quality project delivery.
  3. The QC Engineer works closely with project teams, contractors, consultants, and vendors to identify quality issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain quality documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality Planning & Implementation:

  1. Implement the approved Quality Management System (QMS) at the project site.
  2. Ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, BOQs, method statements, and specifications.
  3. Prepare, review, and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and Quality Checklists.
  4. Coordinate with consultants and clients for inspections, approvals, and quality-related submissions.
  5. Ensure all quality procedures are communicated and followed by site teams and subcontractors

Material Inspection & Control:

  1. Inspect incoming construction materials to ensure compliance with approved material submittals and standards.
  2. Maintain material inspection records, test certificates, and approvals.
  3. Coordinate laboratory and field testing of materials such as concrete, steel, soil, aggregates, and other construction materials.
  4. Ensure proper storage, handling, and usage of materials at site to avoid quality deterioration.

Site Execution & Workmanship Control:

  1. Monitor on-site construction activities to ensure workmanship meets quality standards and approved specifications.
  2. Conduct regular site inspections for civil & Finishing works including RCC, masonry, plastering, finishing, waterproofing, and allied works.
  3. Identify non-conformities (NCRs), issue corrective/preventive actions, and ensure timely closure.
  4. Verify dimensions, levels, alignments, and tolerances during execution.
  5. Support the site team in resolving technical and quality-related issues.

Testing, Inspection & Documentation:

  1. Plan and witness all required inspections and tests as per ITPs and project requirements.
  2. Maintain quality records including inspection reports, test results, pour cards, cube test results, and checklists.
  3. Prepare and submit quality-related reports to the Project Manager and senior management.
  4. Ensure proper documentation for handover, including as-built drawings and quality dossiers.

Compliance & Audit:

  1. Ensure compliance with relevant IS codes, standards, contractual requirements, and statutory regulations.
  2. Participate in internal and external quality audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
  3. Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality norms at the site in coordination with HSE teams.
  4. Continuously monitor and improve quality processes to prevent recurring issues.

Coordination & Communication:

  1. Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure quality expectations are met.
  2. Provide guidance and training to site staff and contractors on quality standards and best practices.
  3. Communicate quality issues, risks, and improvement measures effectively to stakeholders.
  4. Work closely with planning and execution teams to ensure quality is integrated into all project activities.

Ideal Candidate for the role:
Knowledge:

  1. Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, materials, and quality control procedures.
  2. Thorough understanding of IS codes, construction specifications, and quality standards.
  3. Knowledge of RCC works, finishing works, waterproofing, and MEP interfaces (basic level).
  4. Familiarity with quality documentation systems, ITPs, method statements, and audits.
  5. Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to construction projects.

Skills:
  1. Strong inspection and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  2. Ability to identify quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
  3. Good documentation and reporting skills.
  4. Effective communication and coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and work under site pressures.
  6. Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with QA/QC software/tools is an advantage.

  3. Hands-on experience in site inspections, material testing, and quality documentation.
  4. Prior experience working with consultants and client quality teams is preferred.
