Role Overview
The Quality Control (QC) Engineer ensures that all incoming raw materials, in-process assemblies, and finished manufactured goods meet defined technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role actively monitors shop-floor operations, leads defect investigations, implements containment actions, and collaborates with production to minimize scrap and rework.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection & Testing: Execute and supervise incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM) according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Documentation & Traceability: Maintain inspection records, First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, Certificates of Analysis (CoA), and Material Test Reports (MTRs).
- Defect Containment & NCRs: Identify non-conforming products, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), isolate defective stock, and coordinate material disposition (scrap, rework, return to vendor).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead problem-solving sessions using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone (Ishikawa) methodologies to prevent recurrence of production defects.
- Process Capability & SPC: Monitor key manufacturing parameters using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools (control charts, Cp, Cpk) to detect process shifts and maintain repeatability.
- Calibration & Tool Management: Manage routine calibration schedules for all shop-floor measuring devices, gauges, and test rigs to ensure compliance.
- Audits & Compliance: Conduct regular internal line audits to ensure assembly lines adhere to ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 requirements and customer-specific standards.

Responsibilities
- Inspection & Metrology: Plan and conduct incoming raw material, in-process, and final product inspections using precision measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, and optical comparators) against engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Non-Conformance & Disposition: Detect deviations, trigger immediate containment actions, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and lead the Material Review Board (MRB) process for rework, scrap, or return-to-vendor decisions.
- Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions: Drive defect investigations using structured problem-solving frameworks (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) to identify root causes and implement verified Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Statistical Process Control (SPC): Monitor critical manufacturing dimensions and process parameters using SPC tools (X-bar/R charts, Pareto analysis, Cp/Cpk metrics) to detect process drift early and ensure continuous capability.
- Calibration & Tool Management: Maintain the calibration program and schedule for all shop-floor gauges, fixtures, and testing instruments, ensuring measurement system analysis (MSA/Gage R&R) compliance.
- Documentation & Traceability: Generate and sign off on First Article Inspections (FAI/PPAP), Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Certificates of Conformance (CoC), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Shop-Floor Audits & Compliance: Conduct regular layered process audits and internal quality checks to enforce adherence to ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 standards and customer quality requirements.
- Continuous Improvement & Scrap Reduction: Collaborate directly with production supervisors and process engineers to eliminate defect recurring patterns, improve first-pass yield (FPY), and reduce shop-floor scrap.
