Job description

Role Summary

We are looking for a Quality Control Engineer to own inspection and product conformance for our products including and not limited to sensors, avionics and actuation systems, from incoming material through to final acceptance and customer delivery. You will plan and run inspections and tests, catch and resolve non-conformances, and keep the quality records that customer acceptance and military airworthiness certification depend on. You will work closely with design, production and suppliers, and you will be the main point of contact for customer and regulatory inspectors (HAL, BEL, DGAQA, CEMILAC/RCMA) during stage inspections, qualification tests and acceptance tests. The role reports to the Quality Head and is based in our AS9100D environment, where you will help mature our quality system as we grow from development to series production.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare inspection plans, checklists, stage-inspection points and acceptance criteria from drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Carry out and approve incoming, in-process and final inspection of mechanical parts, electronic assemblies, wiring harnesses and finished products.
  • Perform and document First Article Inspection (FAI) to AS9102 for new and changed parts and assemblies.
  • Do dimensional inspection with GD&T, using precision instruments such as CMM, height gauge, micrometres, bore gauges, profile projector and surface roughness tester.
  • Witness and record functional and electrical tests, including Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), insulation resistance, dielectric withstand (HV), continuity and performance checks.
  • Check that special processes (plating, anodising, heat treatment, welding, potting, conformal coating) and material certificates meet specification. Use material verification such as XRF where needed.
  • Inspect soldering, crimping and assembly workmanship against IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620.
  • Raise, investigate and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Run Material Review Board (MRB) disposition.
  • Drive Root Cause Analysis and CAPA using 8D, Why-Why, Fishbone and similar methods.
  • Manage the calibration programme for inspection, measuring and test equipment, with traceability to NABL-accredited labs.
  • Keep FOD prevention and ESD control (ANSI/ESD S20.20) in place on the shop floor and in assembly areas.
  • Support environmental and EMI/EMC qualification testing (MIL-STD-810, JSS 55555, MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160). Check test setups, sequences and records.
  • Coordinate with CEMILAC/RCMA, DGAQA and customer QA representatives for stage inspections, Qualification Test Procedure (QTP) and ATP witnessing, and acceptance.
  • Prepare and maintain quality records: inspection reports, route cards/travellers, test data sheets, Certificates of Conformance and end‑item data packs.
  • Carry out supplier and source inspections. Evaluate supplier quality performance and support supplier development.
  • Apply counterfeit‑parts prevention and configuration‑control practices.
  • Analyse customer complaints, field failures and returned units, and take corrective action.
  • Take part in internal audits, customer audits and AS9100D surveillance audits. Contribute to updating procedures and work instructions.
  • Use quality tools such as PFMEA to improve processes and reduce defects.
Key Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and a firm commitment to quality in products and processes.
  • Hands‑on skill in dimensional metrology and GD&T (ASME Y14.5 / IS 8000), and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of material processing, surface finish, special processes and assembly practices.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and electronic test methods and instruments (DMM, insulation tester, HV tester, oscilloscope, power supplies).
  • Familiarity with IPC workmanship standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620).
  • Practical experience with quality tools: FAI (AS9102), NCR/MRB, RCA, 8D, CAPA, PFMEA, SPC and MSA.
  • Good grounding in MIL-STDs, MIL-PRFs, MIL-SPECs, MOPS, GOST and other defence and aerospace standards (e.g. MIL-STD-810, JSS 55555, MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160, GOST protocols).
  • Knowledge of IMTAR 21 V2.0 and IMAP 2023 is required.
  • Prior experience on projects requiring certification by CEMILAC/RCMA/DGAQA/CRI/DGCA, or working with HAL/BEL as a customer, or working at HAL/BEL/DRDO.
  • Prior experience working in an AS9100D environment, including internal and external audits.
  • Disciplined, audit‑ready documentation habits and the integrity to hold acceptance criteria under schedule pressure.
