Job summary

Airtel is seeking a QA Engineer for Wireless RAN & Device Validation (LTE/5G/Wi‑Fi) to lead end‑to‑end testing across macro and small cells, vRAN/ORAN, and deployed networks. You will work with RAN, device engineering, and OEM teams to ensure RF performance and interoperability from lab to field.

The ideal candidate has 8–12 years in LTE/5G RAN testing, strong RF test tooling experience, and a background in device validation.

Qualifications

Job Description: QA Engineer Wireless RAN & Device (LTE/5G/ Wi‑Fi)

Role Overview

The QA Engineer – Wireless RAN & Device Validation is responsible for end‑to‑end validation of LTE and 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions, ensuring feature compliance, RF performance, interoperability, and customer experience across commercial network deployments.

The role involves validation of eNodeB/gNodeB, vRAN/ORAN platforms, radio features, RF performance, and protocol compliance, while also supporting validation of LTE/5G devices including smartphones and FWA CPEs to ensure seamless end‑to‑end interoperability between network and devices. The engineer will work closely with RAN & Device Engineering, Product, Network Operations, OEMs, and chipset vendors throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Define test strategy, test plans, test cases, and RTM for LTE/5G/WiFi RAN products and wireless solutions.
• Perform end‑to‑end validation of LTE/LTE-A/5G NR features, covering functional, protocol, RF, interoperability, performance, regression, and customer experience testing
• Validate Macro Cells, Small Cells, vRAN/ORAN, and eNB/gNB deployments in both lab and field environments
• Execute RF validation for TDD/FDD, OFDMA, Massive MIMO, Carrier Aggregation, Beamforming, Mobility, Handover, QoS, and Throughput
• Conduct acceptance testing, benchmarking, and standards compliance validation against 3GPP and O‑RAN specifications
• Analyze Layer 1–3 logs and troubleshoot air interface, S1/X2/Xn, IMS, and interoperability issues through Root Cause Analysis
• Develop and maintain OTA and conducted test lines in Lab for end‑to‑end RAN, Core, and Device validation
• Validate LTE/5G commercial devices (Smartphones, FWA CPEs, and data devices) to ensure network interoperability and customer experience
• Collaborate with RAN strategy/ planning, Device Engineering, Network teams, OEMs, and chipset vendors for issue resolution and product quality improvements
• Drive test automation, manage the defect lifecycle, prepare technical documentation, and provide Go/No‑Go recommendations for commercial releases.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise

• Strong knowledge of LTE/LTE‑A, 5G NR (NSA/SA),Wi‑Fi(802.11ac/ax/be), vRAN, ORAN, IMS, RAN architecture, and 3GPP/O‑RAN standards
• Good understanding of RF technologies including TDD/FDD, OFDMA, Massive MIMO, Beamforming, Carrier Aggregation, Mobility, Handover, QoS, and throughput optimization
• Hands‑on experience in RAN feature, protocol, performance, KPI, capacity, stability, and interoperability testing
• Proficiency in RF and wireless test tools such as TM500, Keysight, Anritsu, QXDM, TEMS, XCAL, Wireshark, iPerf, and IxLoad
• Strong expertise in Layer 1–3 log analysis, protocol debugging (PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS), and end‑to‑end call flow analysis
• Exposure to LTE/5G device validation (Smartphones, FWA CPEs, MiFi) with ADB and chipset debugging tools (Qualcomm/MediaTek/UNISOC) is an added advantage
• Knowledge of Python or similar scripting languages for test automation is desirable
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.

Experience & Qualifications

• 8–12 years of experience in LTE/5G RAN Testing, RF Validation, or Telecom Product QA.
• Hands‑on experience in eNodeB/gNodeB, vRAN/ORAN, RAN feature validation, RF performance, protocol analysis, and interoperability testing.
• Experience in commercial acceptance testing and field validation of LTE/5G radio products.
• Exposure to LTE/5G device validation and end‑to‑end network‑device integration will be an added advantage.
• Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related Engineering discipline.
