The role requires strong vendor development and negotiation skills, with coordination across Production, R&D, QA/QC, and Stores to ensure timely delivery and cost control.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Purchase Executive / Purchase Officer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Purchase professional with relevant experience in the Chemical/API Manufacturing Industry. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of chemicals, solvents, laboratory and R&D materials, machinery, engineering items, capital goods and project-related materials. The candidate should have strong knowledge of chemical procurement, vendor development, negotiation, purchase documentation and coordination with various departments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Chemical & Solvent Procurement

• Handle procurement of various solvents and chemicals used in API/Chemical manufacturing.
• Experience in procurement of solvents such as Methanol, Ethyl Acetate, Acetone, IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) and other process chemicals.
• Procure raw materials, process chemicals and specialty chemicals as per production requirements.
• Coordinate with Production, R&D, QA/QC and Stores for material requirements.
• Ensure timely availability of chemicals while maintaining cost and quality standards.

2. Laboratory & R&D Procurement

• Handle procurement of laboratory chemicals, reagents, consumables and R&D chemicals.
• Coordinate with R&D and QC teams regarding technical specifications and material requirements.
• Identify suitable suppliers and obtain quotations as per required specifications.
• Ensure proper documentation and coordination for chemical procurement.

3. Engineering & Machinery Procurement

• Procure machinery, equipment, spare parts and engineering materials required for plant operations.
• Handle procurement of flanges, valves, pipes, fittings, pumps and other mechanical items.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering and Production departments for technical requirements.
• Evaluate quotations and negotiate commercial terms with suppliers.

4. Capital Goods & Project Procurement

• Handle procurement of capital goods, plant machinery and project-related materials.
• Experience in procurement activities related to chemical plant project erection and expansion work.
• Coordinate with project, engineering and contractors for timely procurement and delivery.
• Follow up with vendors for manufacturing, dispatch, installation and project schedules.

5. Vendor Management

• Identify, develop and maintain reliable vendors for chemicals, solvents, machinery and engineering materials.
• Obtain and compare quotations based on price, quality, specifications, delivery and payment terms.
• Negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and favourable commercial terms.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships and resolve supply-related issues.

6. Purchase Documentation & Coordination

• Prepare and process Purchase Requisitions, Purchase Orders, quotation comparisons and related purchase documents.
• Follow up on pending orders and ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Coordinate with Stores for material receipt and discrepancies.
• Maintain proper purchase records and vendor documentation.
• Ensure procurement is carried out as per company procedures and approved requirements.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of chemical/API industry procurement.
• Practical knowledge of solvents, chemicals, laboratory and R&D chemicals.
• Knowledge of machinery, capital goods and engineering material procurement.
• Good knowledge of flanges, valves, pipes, fittings and other engineering items.
• Strong vendor development and negotiation skills.
• Good follow-up and coordination skills.
• Ability to work with Production, R&D, QA/QC, Maintenance, Stores and Projects teams.
• Good knowledge of MS Excel and ERP/Purchase software.

Preferred Experience

Experience: 35 years or more in Purchase/Procurement, preferably from API, Pharmaceutical, Chemical or Specialty Chemical Manufacturing Industry.

Education

Qualification: Graduate in any discipline. Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Production or related technical field will be an added advantage.
