Job summary

SLH Engineering, a precision machine shop in Talawade, seeks a Purchase Engineer to lead end-to-end procurement for the factory. You will own RFQ to PO, manage raw materials, tooling, and maintenance purchases, and ensure on-time delivery aligned with production plans.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end procurement: RFQ, quotation comparison, negotiation, and PO release for raw materials, tooling, and consumables.
• Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base for raw materials (steel, castings, forgings) and tooling for VMC, CNC, HMC machines.
• Coordinate with PPC to plan material and tooling against production schedules to avoid stock-outs.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery to optimize cost, quality, and lead time.
• Track vendor delivery performance and resolve delays to prevent downtime.
• Handle indirect and maintenance purchases: spares, consumables, safety equipment, and general factory supplies.
• Maintain purchase records, vendor rate contracts, and MIS entries for procurement activity.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate sourcing and vendor rationalization.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Engineer to lead the purchase function at SLH Engineering, a precision machine shop. The ideal candidate will own end-to-end procurement - from RFQ to on-time material delivery at the plant - covering raw material, tooling, maintenance, and direct/indirect purchases for the factory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Own the end-to-end procurement cycle - RFQ floating, quotation comparison, negotiation, and purchase order release for raw materials, tooling, and consumables.
2. Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base for raw materials (steel, castings, forgings) and cutting tools/tooling for VMC, CNC, and HMC machines.
3. Coordinate with the PPC/Production Planning team to plan raw material and tooling requirements against the production schedule, avoiding stock-outs and line stoppages.
4. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with vendors to optimize cost, quality, and lead time.
5. Track vendor delivery performance and proactively resolve delays or shortages to prevent production downtime.
6. Handle indirect and maintenance purchases - spares, consumables, safety equipment, and general factory supplies.
7. Maintain purchase records, vendor rate contracts, and Zoho/MIS entries for all procurement activity.
8. Identify and drive cost-saving initiatives through alternate sourcing, vendor rationalization, and value engineering.
9. Coordinate with QA/QC on incoming material inspection and resolve vendor quality rejections or deviations.
10. Support new vendor onboarding, evaluation, and periodic vendor audits.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in purchase department for a manufacturing company is mandatory
• Strong negotiation, vendor management, and cost analysis skills.
• Sound understanding of raw materials, tooling, and machining processes used in a machine shop environment.
• Working knowledge of Zoho purchase modules and MS Excel.

Good to Have

• Experience with purchasing of tooling for VMC, CNC and HMC machines.
• Exposure to machining factory purchase will be added advantage.
• Experience managing deliveries from Vendor as per PPC department requirement and planning for Raw material and Tooling
