Responsibilities

  • Lead the stone and masonry execution programme from quarry to monument erection.
  • Review and implement the approved stone block schedule.
  • Coordinate with quarry, geological, BIM and QA/QC teams.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports on fabrication, dispatch and erection.
  • Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, methodology and quality requirements.
  • Identify bottlenecks, plan stockyard requirements and ensure timely availability of stone.

Role Description
PROJECT MANAGER – STONE & MASONRY

Location: Mahabalipuram

Experience: 12+ years

1. ROLE PURPOSE

The Project Manager – Stone & Masonry will lead and coordinate the complete stone construction and masonry programme, from quarry-sourced granite blocks through fabrication, dressing, CNC processing, carving, quality inspection, transportation, storage and final erection at the monument.

The position requires extensive practical experience in large-scale granite construction, traditional stone masonry, precision stone erection and management of large stone quantities and block schedules.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Take overall responsibility for the stone and masonry execution programme.
  • Review and implement the approved stone block schedule.
  • Coordinate with quarry and geological teams regarding stone quality, block sizes and production.
  • Coordinate with BIM and stone-detailing teams for shop drawings, block geometry, numbering and fabrication information.
  • Establish priorities for production based on the monument erection sequence.
  • Supervise granite block dressing, machining, carving and finishing.
  • Establish procedures for dimensional accuracy, tolerances, joints and interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the CNC Production Manager/Head to ensure required blocks are produced on schedule.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC for inspection and acceptance of every major stone package.
  • Plan stone storage and stockyard requirements.
  • Establish block identification and traceability from quarry to final installation.
  • Coordinate transportation and delivery of blocks to the erection fronts.
  • Coordinate with the Heavy Lift & Crane Specialist for handling and erection of large blocks.
  • Supervise stone placement, alignment, levelling, locking and jointing.
  • Coordinate traditional stone masonry workmanship and specialist craftsmen.
  • Identify shortages, production bottlenecks and quality issues and initiate corrective action.
  • Ensure adequate stone is available ahead of the erection requirement.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports covering fabrication, dispatch and erection.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications,

methodology and quality requirements.

3. PROJECT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY

The Project Manager shall ensure that stone production and erection remain synchronised with the height-wise construction programme.

4. STONE & MASONRY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The candidate should have demonstrated experience in:

  • Large-scale granite and natural stone construction
  • Traditional stone masonry
  • Precision stone placement and alignment
  • Stone joints, locking and fixing systems
  • Quarry-to-site stone supply chains
  • Stone fabrication and dressing
  • Stone carving and architectural detailing
  • Stockyard management and stone logistics
  • Heavy stone lifting and installation
  • Quality control of natural stone

Experience with temples, monuments, heritage buildings or major stone architectural projects will be highly preferred.

5. QUALIFICATION
  • B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering / related discipline, or equivalent relevant technical qualification.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience in stone construction, heritage construction or monumental architecture.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Construction Management / Structural Engineering / Heritage Conservation will be an advantage.
6. KEY DELIVERABLES / KPIs
  • Stone fabrication completed according to the approved production schedule.
  • Required blocks available before the corresponding erection work front opens.
  • Achievement of stage-wise stone erection targets.
  • Correct block dimensions, tolerances and workmanship.
  • Complete stone traceability and numbering.
  • Minimum rejection, rework and damage.
  • Timely resolution of stone-related technical issues.
  • Compliance with approved masonry methodology.
  • No avoidable delays to the monument erection programme.

The schedule specifically requires foundation, lower structure, mid-structure and shikhara stone fabrication to run ahead of and in parallel with erection.
