Project Engineer - Shipbuilding

Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced project coordinator to drive end-to-end execution of new-build vessel projects in India. You will act as the central liaison among shipyards, naval architecture consultants, classification societies and vendors, while maintaining detailed schedules, trackers and action plans.

You will monitor progress against construction plans, manage procurement status for long-lead items, and coordinate reviews, approvals and certifications to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• 59 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding
• Experience coordinating with shipyards, design consultants, classification societies and marine equipment suppliers
• Exposure to project planning and tracking tools such as MS Project or Primavera would be desirable

Responsibilities

• Coordinate end-to-end execution of assigned new-build vessel projects from design development through construction, commissioning and delivery.
• Act as the central shipbuilding project coordination point between the shipyard, appointed naval architecture/design consultants, classification societies, equipment vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Develop, maintain and monitor detailed project schedules, milestones, deliverable trackers and action plans.
• Track progress against approved construction plans and proactively identify delays, bottlenecks, dependencies and execution risks.
• Coordinate design deliverables and facilitate timely review, comments and closure of technical actions with the appointed design consultant.
• Track procurement status of major equipment, long-lead items and critical materials in coordination with the procurement team.
• Monitor construction progress across hull fabrication, machinery installation, outfitting, electrical works, testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate and track approvals, inspections and certification requirements from classification societies, flag/state authorities and other applicable agencies.
• Support project budget monitoring, cost tracking, variation management and change orders.
• Maintain project risk registers, issue logs, decision trackers and action closure mechanisms.
• Organise project review meetings and prepare periodic progress reports, dashboards and management updates.
• Ensure systematic project documentation and document control for drawings, specifications, correspondence, approvals, reports and project records.
• Coordinate harbour trials, sea trials, commissioning activities and vessel delivery.
• Track punch-list items and ensure timely closure of outstanding actions prior to vessel handover.
• Coordinate with vessel operations and technical teams to ensure smooth transition from construction to operational deployment.
• Escalate critical project risks, delays and cost implications to the Head Technical / New Builds in a timely manner.

Experience

• Approximately 59 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding, vessel new-build projects, offshore vessels, tugs, supply vessels or marine project execution.
• Experience coordinating with shipyards, design consultants, classification societies and marine equipment suppliers.
