Job summary

CGIAR's CIP South Asia Regional Center (CSARC) in Agra seeks a Project Engineer to lead the on-site design, construction and maintenance oversight for the CSARC campus.

You will work with CIP staff, NHB, contractors and architects to ensure safety, quality, and sustainability while coordinating multi-stakeholder activities.

Advanced degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience; willingness to be based in Agra; familiarity with Indian codes and construction QC is essential.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or long-term professional experience with an engineering degree.
  • Supervision experience on greenfield institutional, laboratory, or campus-scale construction projects in India.
  • Knowledge of Indian building codes, structural and geotechnical standards, and QC practices.
  • Experience conducting independent site supervision/oversight preferred.
  • HSE standards familiarity on construction sites.
  • Strong written communication for technical reporting and non-conformance docs.
  • Willing to be based in Agra and coordinate with CIP, NHB, contractors, architects.
  • CIP is a global organization within CGIAR focused on food security and nutrition.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on oversight of design, construction and maintenance of the CSARC campus.
  • Lead planning, development, operation and continuous improvement of physical infrastructure and utilities.
  • Coordinate with CIP staff, NHB, contractors and architects to ensure quality and safety.
  • Act as CIP’s technical representative across planning, commissioning and handover phases.

Job Description

About CSARC: The CIP, SouthAsia Regional Center (CSARC), Agra, serves as a key hub for agriculturalresearch and development focused on potato and sweetpotato systems in SouthAsia. The center supports research initiatives aimed at improving cropproductivity, climate resilience, and sustainable farming practices. Itcollaborates with national research institutions, government agencies, privateplayers and development partners to promote innovative agricultural solutions.

About the position: The Project Engineerwill be part of the Operations team and will work closely with CIP projectstaff, contractors, and the National Horticulture Board (NHB) during theconstruction phase and later will be responsible for all day to day maintenancerelated job at the centres. The Engineer willprovide dedicated, hands-on engineering oversight of the design, construction andmaintenance of the CSARC campus, acting as a technical extension of the CIPteam on site. The Project Engineerserves as CIP's technical representative throughout the planning, design,construction, commissioning, handover, and operational phases of the CSARCcampus, providing independent technical oversight to ensure quality,accountability, and compliance. The role will lead and support the planning,development, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of CSARC'sphysical infrastructure, facilities, utilities, and engineering systems toensure the Centre remains safe, functional, sustainable, and fit for purpose.

Requirements
  • AdvancedDegree in Civil Engineering (or closely related field) or long-termprofessional experience with an Engineering degree; professionalengineering registration/license preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision ofgreenfield institutional, laboratory, or campus-scale constructionprojects in India.
  • Working knowledge of Indian buildingcodes, structural and geotechnical standards, and construction qualitycontrol practices.
  • Experience conducting independent sitesupervision/oversight is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with HSE standards onconstruction sites.
  • Strong written communication skills fortechnical reporting and non-conformance documentation.
  • Willingnessto be based in Agra.
  • Ability to work independently whilecoordinating closely with a multi-stakeholder team (CIP, NHB, contractors,architects).
