Project Engineer – Civil
Location: Chennai, India
Overview

The role involves providing design for the engineering discipline across multiple engineering projects within the OPC, delivering assignments on moderate-sized or major projects cost‑effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards. Highest quality and safety requirements are applied.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select and apply standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments.
- Provide technical support for installation and commissioning activities.
- Prepare project documentation within scope of deliverables.
- Develop tender engineering deliverable in short period with quality and secure completeness of assigned packages.
- Confirm engineering is developed, considering complete information and all inter‑discipline checks, and that results are documented in the project‑specific storage area.
- Solve problems that appear during engineering development with focus on cost‑efficient system solutions.
- Report and keep records for all engineering changes; cooperate with engineering team and agree on project‑specific impacts caused by changes.
- Ensure compliance with Linxon and client engineering guidelines, standards and quality across the complete engineering process.
- Create work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility.
- Coordinate and clarify technical issues with engineers, sub‑contractors and suppliers within assigned scope of work and technical interfaces.
- Collaborate with the site team, attend site during construction phase if necessary.
- Contribute to the risk & opportunity register by communicating observations.
- Prepare all technical documentation for equipment specification as input to purchase requisitions.
- Participate at design reviews.
- Provide input for close‑out report and lessons learned, and review lessons learned for next projects.
Qualifications
- 6–10 years of experience in substation design with focus on HV equipment expertise and overall system design.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering.
- Complete knowledge of civil design and detail engineering of AIS & GIS substation foundation, structures up to 500 kV and transmission line design for various voltage levels.
- Experience with ANSI standards for substation civil engineering (preferred).
- Overall engineering design experience on base, detail civil, structural engineering in GIS or AIS substation and transmission line for UK utilities.
- Proficiency with ANSI units such as feet, inches, pounds.
- Hands‑on experience in HV substation civil and structural design, preparation of site grading, foundation design, detailed engineering drawings, building design and detailing.
- Review of consultant design and drawing and provide in‑depth comments; coordinate with site, customer, consultant and contractor.
- Complete design experience on civil software: STAAD Pro, SAP 2000, SAFE, L pile, L shaft, RISA, AutoCAD.
- Experience in transmission line design using PLS CAD, PLS tower, PLS pole.
- Understanding of electronic records management systems.
- High attention to detail and quality.
- Pile foundation design skills.
- Site grading development and drainage layout preparation.
