Job summary

WSP in India seeks a Project Director/Lead to oversee UK Mining projects within the GCC UK Mining team. You will ensure governance, safety, and delivery excellence while promoting WSP Vision and Values across multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires 15–25 years of experience managing complex projects, with GBP 5 million+ value, and recognised professional qualifications (CEng/PE; PMP/APM preferred). You will mentor staff, lead change, and drive client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • 15–25 years of experience managing or directing complex cross‑regional, multidisciplinary projects, preferably valued at GBP 5 million or more.
  • Professionally qualified and a member of a relevant internationally recognised institution (CEng/PE).
  • PMP/APM Certification is preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Director/Lead for UK Mining projects and ensure delivery to quality standards.
  • Promote WSP Vision and Values while leading GCC UK Mining team.
  • Mentor staff towards professional accreditation and perform staff appraisals.
  • Deliver framework/contract projects to the highest quality standards and manage budget/contracts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders; facilitate cross‑regional collaboration.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Act as the Project Director/ Lead for UK Mining projects
  • Health & safety, welfare, risk, information security, and assessment/compliance
  • Project, programme, design, contracts and financial management
  • Promote WSP Vision and Values
  • Actively promote the UK Global Capability Centre (GCC) culture within the team and ensure that the staff deliver on promises
  • Interfacing with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Manage the team and processes to ensure the preparation and checking of documents, reports and other technical outputs/deliverables from a variety of Mining-related disciplines meet internal and client requirements and quality assurance standards
  • Provide highly visible, inspirational leadership and direction for the GCC UK Mining team, ensuring that it is aligned with the wider UK business
  • Mentoring team members towards professional accreditation or equivalent
  • Carry out and report on staff appraisals and performance development reviews
  • Monitor and review team capability in the use of the required standards, processes, software tools, and, with technical colleagues, identify training required
  • Identify opportunities to upskill existing technical resources or recruit new capabilities to deliver additional services or enhance existing ones
  • Identify further skills that could be brought into the GCC India, to deliver additional services or enhancements to various businesses
  • Ensuring that the Business Management System is implemented and maintained
  • Seek regular feedback on team performances, ensure criticisms are positively converted into opportunities for improvement
  • Develop/maintain excellent relationships, ensuring repeat business and client satisfaction, internally and externally
  • Contribution to bids and marketing material
  • Contribute to the design of operational processes, systems, quality measurement processes, and achievement of KPIs
  • Ensure process and governance such that all projects comply with Health and Safety, and Quality Assurance Standards
  • Carry out audits of adherence to WSP Management and Quality processes and implement corrective measures where required

  • Inspire and motivate departmental staff towards technical progression

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the relevant GCC Teams and other framework leads
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, to ensure alignment and satisfaction
  • Facilitate cross‑regional and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Manage projects with fluctuating priorities, periods of uncertainty, and complex delivery conditions while maintaining delivery focus and team alignment
Change Leadership & Innovation
  • Champion the adoption of new technologies, tools, and processes to enhance framework delivery
  • Lead change initiatives and foster a culture of innovation and adaptability
Qualifications
  • 15–25 years of experience managing or directing complex cross‑regional, multidisciplinary projects, preferably valued at GBP 5 million or more
  • Professionally qualified and a member of a relevant internationally recognised institution (e.g. Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent)
  • PMP/APM Certification (preferable)
  • Experienced in managing mining projects related to feasibility studies, mine infrastructure, tailings, water, geotechnical, environmental interfaces, mineral processing / materials handling, safety and regulatory compliance in mining projects (preferable)
Mandatory Skills
  • Demonstrate proven working knowledge of UK design standards and experience applying them to complex Mining or multidiscipline infrastructure projects
  • Track record of design management and project management
