Job summary

Hitachi Rail in Bengaluru, India is seeking a driven Project Controller who can handle a broad range of duties from administration to strategic finance. The role is based in Bangalore, India, and involves working with project teams to manage cost, schedule, and cash flow.

Ideal candidates have 10–15 years of experience in project controls, strong knowledge of SAP/PCS, and a background in accounting, tax and contract management. Fluency in English and an additional Indian language is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 10–15 years of experience in project controls or finance for large projects.
  • Knowledge of statutory (SAP) and management reporting tools.
  • Knowledge in project cost control and project management.
  • Expertise in accounting, finance, tax and related requirements.
  • Knowledge of contract clauses, bonds, L/C and related regulatory needs.
  • Languages: English and another Indian language.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and budgets with the project team.
  • Track budgeted vs actual spend and provide variance explanations.
  • Collaborate with WPLs to develop accurate cost-to-complete estimates and EACs.
  • Monitor cash flow, invoicing, and reconciliation of receipts.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts and annual budgets; report KPIs.
  • Assist with Change Orders, potential claims, and cost recovery actions.
  • Coordinate with global controllers for intracompany projects and audits.

Job description

HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Project Controller who thrives

in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide

range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Bangalore, India.

Accountabilities

Project level responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • In conjunction with Project Team, develop the Work Breakdown Structure and
  • Budgets for the project
  • Work with Work Package Leaders (WPL) to develop accurate cost to complete
  • estimates and percent complete evaluations
  • Track, monitor and report planned budgets/forecast vs. actual spend using project
  • controlling tools (SAP, PCS and other tools). Provide variance explanations and
  • possible recovery plan actions
  • Work with Project Planner to review latest schedule and quarterly report the Earned
  • Value
  • Monthly reporting of project results
  • Assist with the preparation, processing and tracking of contract Change Orders
  • Work with the project manager to assist with the preparation and tracking of
  • potential claims for additional work
  • Track internal and external invoicing and reconciliation of cash receipts and
  • Understand and report on the cash flow position of the project
  • Work with global controllers for Intracompany projects
  • Track subcontractor invoicing, payments and reconciliations
  • Review and approve Purchase Order Requisitions in alignment with budget and
  • track P.O.s in PCS.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts and annual budget and reporting of the key performance
  • indicators for the project
  • Monitor the financial “health” of the project and raise the “red flag” when a negative
  • impact or condition arises.
  • Calculate EVA at global level in accordance with group controlling mode
  • Resolve of queries from global reporting on actual, variance to budget, workload,
  • Support functional Manager on project progress, key numbers and other
  • Support local ADMN in filling of Lower tax and other fillings as per statute
  • Address queries both from Statutory, Internal and Global auditor. Resolve open
  • points with auditor pertains to project progress, delay, un-billed revenue, cost
Required Skills/ Knowledge
  • 10-15 Years of experience
  • Knowledge of statutory (SAP) and management (reporting) Tools
  • Knowledge in Project cost control, Project Management
  • Expertise of Accounting & finance, Tax, requirements
  • Knowledge of legal requirements (Contract clauses , Bond text; L/C …)
  • Languages: English and Other Indian Language.\
Education/Qualifications
  • CMA/CA/MBA with 8-10 years of experience in handling Trunkey Project;
  • Degrees in accounting or equivalent with experience of 10-15 years in handling
