Job summary

The University of York invites an experienced ELT Programme Manager to join the Global Opportunities team, with a November 2026 start. This part-time role (3 days/week) is based on campus and focuses on developing and delivering short courses and summer programmes for undergraduate students.

You will lead business development, course design, and recruitment of tutors and visiting lecturers, drawing on a postgraduate ELT qualification and HE experience to expand international partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate ELT teaching qualification (DELTA or Masters in TESOL).
  • Experience in English language teaching and/or teacher training, and in management.
  • Ability to manage a team and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple work streams and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Google apps and/or Microsoft Office.

Role Description
We require an experienced and skilled ELT practitioner to manage and develop short courses and summer programmes as part of our Global Opportunities team from November 2026.
Department
The Global Opportunities team is part of the International Recruitment, Partnerships and Mobility team within the Global Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions Directorate and manages the University’s portfolio of international student mobility partners and programmes including bespoke short courses for students, open access summer schools and teacher training courses for prospective primary and secondary ELT teachers. These programmes aim to build new international relationships and enhance existing relationships with key University partners across the globe and support University strategy.
The team is growing in-line with the University’s ambitious new strategy to rapidly expand its potential to generate new income streams and develop substantive global partnerships aligned to the emergent new University Strategy. The IRPM team is therefore tasked with increasing the visibility of the University of York to global audiences, including partner international universities, international academic networks and other international research and teaching partnerships. The University has significant geographical reach with its current partners and prides itself on the depth of these relationships.
Role
The Programme Manager will be required to set up and deliver short courses and summer programmes for undergraduate students run by the Global Opportunities Team.
You will be an experienced ELT manager who has worked with HE organisations in the UK and internationally. You will take responsibility for all aspects of short programme development and delivery. This will include business development, course design and the recruitment and management of teams of tutors and visiting lecturers.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed
  • You will have a postgraduate ELT teaching qualification (eg DELTA/Masters in TESOL).
  • You will have experience in English language teaching as a teacher (and/or teacher trainer) and a manager.
  • You will have the ability to manage a team and apply available resources to optimum effect.
  • You can manage multiple work streams and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines.
  • You should be able to use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office.
Please note that this is a part-time role and the successful candidate would be required to work a 3-day week.
