Job summary

HID in Chennai seeks an experienced Product Owner to join our product organization and translate strategy into actionable priorities for engineering teams. You will work with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, UX, QA, Security, and other Product Owners to drive customer value.

The role requires defining and prioritizing the backlog, clarifying customer outcomes, supporting discovery, and enabling secure, scalable, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 12+ years of experience in technology and software product development.
• 3–5 years in Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Product Manager, or equivalent roles.
• Experience with complex enterprise software products or platforms.
• Strong understanding of Agile software development and SDLC.
• Ability to translate complex customer and business needs into actionable engineering requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Experience working with global and distributed engineering teams preferred.

Responsibilities

• Translate product strategy, customer needs, and business priorities into well-defined features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Own, prioritize, and refine the team backlog aligned with Product Management priorities.
• Ensure the engineering team understands the customer problem, expected outcome, and value behind the work.
• Make timely product decisions and provide clarification throughout the development lifecycle.
• Review delivered capabilities against requirements, acceptance criteria, and customer outcomes.
• Balance new capabilities with technical enablers, quality improvements, security requirements, and debt.
• Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, UX, and stakeholders to validate problems.
• Support product discovery through customer feedback, prototypes, and incremental validation.
• Identify dependencies, risks, edge cases, and operational considerations early.

We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to join our product organization in Chennai. This role will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, UX, Quality, Security, and other Product Owners to translate product strategy and customer needs into clear, actionable priorities for engineering teams.

The Product Owner will be responsible for defining and prioritizing the team backlog, providing clarity on customer and business outcomes, supporting product discovery, and enabling the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions.

We are looking for a Product Owner who goes beyond backlog management and understands the customer problem, business value, product context, and technical considerations required to make effective product decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership and Delivery

• Translate product strategy, customer needs, and business priorities into well-defined features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Own, prioritize, and continuously refine the team backlog in alignment with Product Management priorities.
• Ensure the engineering team understands the customer problem, expected outcome, and value behind the work.
• Make timely product decisions and provide clarification throughout the development lifecycle.
• Review delivered capabilities against agreed requirements, acceptance criteria, and intended customer outcomes.
• Balance new capabilities with technical enablers, quality improvements, security requirements, and technical debt.

Product Discovery and Collaboration

• Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, UX, and other stakeholders to understand and validate customer problems.
• Support product discovery through customer feedback, technical investigations, prototypes, and incremental validation.
• Collaborate with other Product Owners to manage dependencies and ensure alignment across teams.
• Understand technical constraints and trade-offs sufficiently to support effective prioritization and product decisions.
• Identify dependencies, risks, edge cases, and operational considerations early in the development process.

Agile Planning and Execution

• Participate in roadmap refinement, PI Planning, iteration planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and Inspect & Adapt activities where applicable.
• Ensure features and stories are sufficiently prepared ahead of planning and development.
• Coordinate priorities and dependencies across teams.
• Track progress toward product outcomes and adjust priorities based on customer feedback, business needs, and delivery learnings.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of overall industry experience in technology and software product development.
• 3–5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Product Manager, or equivalent product-focused role.
• Experience working with complex enterprise software products or platforms.
• Strong understanding of Agile software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex customer and business needs into actionable engineering requirements.
• Strong analytical, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Experience working with global and distributed engineering and product teams is preferred.

Technical Understanding

The Product Owner is not expected to define engineering implementation but should have sufficient technical understanding to engage effectively with engineers and architects.

Experience or working knowledge in several of the following areas is preferred:

• Cloud-based and SaaS platforms
• Mobile applications and ecosystems
• REST APIs and system integrations
• Authentication, identity, and authorization
• Security and cybersecurity principles
• Distributed systems and cloud architecture
• Hardware, software, and firmware integration
• IoT and connected-device ecosystems

Added Advantage – Not Mandatory

Experience in the following areas would be beneficial but is not required:

• Digital or mobile credentials and mobile wallets
• Access control, identity, authentication, or credential management solutions
• Products integrating cloud, mobile, software, and physical devices

Strong Product Ownership and technical product experience from other technology domains will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAFe or another scaled Agile framework.
• SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) certification or equivalent training.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Miro, or similar tools.
• Previous software engineering or hands-on technical experience is an advantage.

What Success Looks Like

The successful Product Owner will ensure that engineering teams understand what they are building, why it matters, and the outcomes expected. They will maintain a healthy and prioritized backlog, enable timely product decisions, identify dependencies and risks early, and establish strong alignment between Product Management and Engineering.

Most importantly, they will take ownership of customer and business value rather than focusing solely on feature or story delivery.
