Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Principal Systems/Software Engineer to join our team onsite in India. You will design, develop, and optimize carrier-grade networking solutions on a multi-tenant SaaS platform, with a focus on backend systems and distributed applications.

You will lead technical decisions, design microservices, and collaborate across product, QA, SRE, and operations to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud-native software.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Drive technical decisions and define specifications with product managers and engineers.
• Software Development: Design, implement, test, and maintain production-grade backend systems.
• System Design & Optimization: Build micro-services for high availability, scalability, and security.
• Networking Expertise: Apply knowledge of networking protocols and cloud networking concepts.
• SaaS & Cloud Native Development: Leverage cloud platforms and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams including QA, SRE, and support.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: Enforce code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and DevOps.
• Problem Solving: Troubleshoot production issues promptly.
• Innovation & Research: Stay updated on networking, SaaS and software engineering trends.
• Documentation: Create comprehensive API and design documentation.

Job Description: Job Family Definition: We are seeking a talented and motivated Principal Engineer to join our dynamic team in building carrier-grade networking solutions on a multi-tenant SaaS platform. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing our core services. As a key member of our engineering group, you will work on cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive impactful solutions. You will leverage your deep understanding of networking principles, distributed systems, and cloud technologies to deliver a reliable, performant, and secure solution to our global customer base.

What you’ll do:

• Technical Leadership: Work with product managers, architects, and other engineers to understand the software requirements, and define corresponding functional and design specifications. Drive technical decisions and contribute to the overall strategy.
• Software Development: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality, production-grade software, with a strong emphasis on backend systems. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
• System Design & Optimization: Design and implement micro-services for high availability, scalability, performance, and security within a SaaS platform. Identify and resolve complex performance bottlenecks and system issues.
• Networking Expertise: Work on Service Provider or Enterprise Networks and Cloud deployments, technology and implementations. Apply deep knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, NAT), network security, and cloud networking concepts to build robust and secure solutions.
• SaaS & Cloud Native Development: Design and implement solutions leveraging cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including product management, QA, SRE, and technical assistance team.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: Champion best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing methodologies, CI/CD, and DevOps principles.
• Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a timely and effective manner, often in production environments.
• Innovation & Research: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in networking, SaaS, and software engineering. Propose and prototype new ideas and solutions.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for designs, APIs, and operational procedures.

What you need to bring:

• Experience: A minimum of 15 years of professional software development experience, with a significant portion focused on backend systems and distributed applications.
